auto-ing my 700 violent shuddering
I maidened my 700 chp dl yesterday. First flight a minute and a half Landed it under throttle, no problem. Second flight 2 minutes. A little more flying around, but no 3d. Brought it in for a landing, hit throttle hold at about 20 feet in the air, and the heli started to wobble. A little bit at first, then got more and more violent. Got it on the ground, but the blades were both broken. The elevator link was off, and one of the swash links was broken. I'm thinking that the swash link breaking caused the issue.
This is a KDE DFC style head. I had a little trouble getting 0 pitch on one of the links so I turned it half a turn (put it on backwards with the A in). I think caused my own problem. But thought I'd ask you guys? I'm running a 4525/520 Scorpion, 12pinion, 112 main, 690 se edge, vbar, cc160 gov, 1900 head speed. I was also thinking it could have been : 1) a bent main shaft 2) too hard dampers 3) not tight enough on the blade grips 4) gain too high on the vbar 5) putting the swash link on backwards (stressing the link) 6) I checked all of the screws for tightness, and noticed that the rear brace was not tight on the tail boom. This might be an issue as well? I thought that it was weird that the flights were fine, things didn't come apart until I turned on throttle hold. Turning off the power triggered the failure. ---greg |

I'd say point 2 combined with the low head speed of a 20 ft auto.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I have been suspecting that blade grips not being tight enough would be a problem. Turning off the power caused one of the blades to put the heli out of balance, which stressed my backwards link causing it to break. I really hope that was the case!

What ever was loose was held in place by motor torque. Entering the auto unloaded it slider guide maybe and that rocking around set up the wobble. Centrifugal force should be high enough to keep the blade out but if head speed dropped off.......

Although I haven't really flown the heli very hard yet, I did take it out on Sat and Sund and it flew great. I've tried a few autos, pitch pumps, etc..no issues. I must have snapped the swash link trying to get the swash perfectly level. I really need to try some of those turnbuckles. Thanks for the advice guys,
