Depending on how low your normal rpm is, it's looking like a flat 40 percent is more consistent for accurate gov performance.

Try using 40 and tell us how it goes

Great video on nitro gov basic setup Chris!! Wish it were around when I was setting up my n5c which also was my first nitro, but through trial and error, I ended up with exactly the same steps. Can't wait until you get the governor tuning videos out. Good Job!

For my throttle cut I ended up using my L TRIM switch on my DX8 since it is in a place where it will be difficult to accidentally hit the switch and cut off my motor while flying.

Can't believe this thread isn't stickied yet.

With an 11t pinion I had speed 1 at 2200 with about 100-150rpm difference between speeds. With the 12t I set it at 2300 but it was not spooling up either way. Not sure how "low" those speeds would be considered but right now I have this as my setup, (I might run speed 3 up another 1 or 2 hundred rpm after I get some more flights in.)

Talon 90
600 x with 12t
RPMs- 1-2300 (N=40%), 2- 2400 (IU1=60%), 3 - 2475 (IU2=100%)
6s 30c 5000mAh Eflite or 6s 40c 4500mAh Hayin

Not familiar with the Castle escs, but a few things i did on my YGE was turn off governor and change the start up from Heli-soft start to Plane-Fast start. When you set your low end throttle setting did you try hitting the "+" a few times then working down with the "-" button until the esc armed? When i first set mine up I was getting the esc to arm so i thought it was at the lowest setting. When i went to the advance governor screen it was showing my governor min throttle # at 980. You can try increasing this # by 10 (I saw Chris suggest this on another thread) until your esc doesn't arm then going down by 1 until it arms - similar to using the "+" and "-" buttons on the basic screen. My governor min throttle # ended up being 1175 once I was done. My low rpms issue on speed 1 was solved. This was my first time setting up a governor so this worked for me, if anyone has anything to add or if i misstated something please chime in.

A little off the subject but I thought to use ext gov on YGE you have to do like heli middle then plane fast 3x in a row to get the special tone. I dont know if that is exactly the sequence but it was something like that on both of my 120's to use vbar gov.

That puts the ESC in VBar mode if it's a newer version that has that function. You can use the airplane modes as well because these don't have any soft start. Depending on what version of the unit you have, you may or may not need an external phase sensor with this mode.

Should note, even with the VBar mode you need to set a response rate. I like plane fast, but I know many use who plane middle.

Default iKON Setup and Tuning Video Series

Just got my ikon powered. Noob to big high tech FBL systems. Got satellits bound. Worked into the servo panel using reverse until servos were moving correct directions. However the only cyclic movement that is wrong is forward cyclic, the swash tilts backwards. Left, right and pitch up and down are all correct. I thought just reversing the elevator servo would fix it but realized that cyclic motion is a combination movement of all three. Am I missing something? Dx8 radio set to the 120 three servo swash type like the ikon is.

Radio better be set single servo/ normal swash. It's the ikon that does swash mixing.

Next thing to do is click on transmitter icon in ikon software and check that fore/aft right/left and so on is moving in the right direction and reaching 100. Something off here you reverse in transmitter.

You can then pick your swash type in ikon software and hook the servos up as indicated on the selection diagram in the ikon software. The little 1, 2, 3 tell you what ports on the ikon the servos go.

Then and only then can you go the swash plate setup panel and move the collective up and down. Reverse any servo not moving correctly.

Yeah Kthane is right your radio must be set to 1 servo normal. No mixing in the radio at all.

Once you change that you should find a servo reverse option that moves everything the correct direction.

thanks,
Not sure if Chris already responded to you but I'm pretty sure those two boxes are like "status lights" - they will check once the unit senses a magnet (nitro) or the phase signal and also when the governor is active. You dont have to check the box to select it.

Default iKON Setup and Tuning Video Series

Kthane and Chris sexton and others
Thanks guys. I was havering trouble reversing the elevator servo in the dx8. I got it. Now all movements are correct. Chris I was watching your YouTube series on your E6 with the brain setup. You were able to get all your throws to 100%. The only one that won't in tease for me from the Tx settings is the Pitch. I can run the Tx pitch numbers up and down but the ikon software doesn't change from 75%? Am I missing something?
Thanks guys

Pitch curve should be se to 0,25,50,75,100 initially. You then adjust the end points for the pitch channel. That would be aux1 I believe.

Finally got some flights in this weekend and the governor works great! I'll be setting it up this week on my other two helis.

dumb question as i'm used to running vbar. i'm building a 450l and will be using a cc edge 50 with the ikon but want to do the first few flights ungoverned to make sure the tail is set up first before turning the ikon gov on and don't know how to set throttle end points for non ikon gov use. i'm pretty comfortable with the gov set up page on the high and low there just not regular endpoints unless you make the 0 and 100 points not match on the radio set up page.

If you aren't running the iKON gov, just ignore the throttle and gov setup entirely. Set your end points in the radio per your ESC specifications. When you decide to start using the ikon gov, you will need to redo the end points.

I'm just missing something here, probably something stupid . Last thing I need to fix before I really start flying this thing (300x).

Under Swash setup screen, for cyclic, my cyclic is off from max/min. To say, they aren't equal in both directions. Silly, but I cant figure/remember where to go to correct this. What should I do here? fwiw, I have 12 deg of pitch in both directions and they are equal. TX screen shows all inputs at 100 except rudder at 92 in both directions (I'll fix this tonight, I think I have D/R on the rudder). Is it mechanical?

Thanks again for the setup vid. It saved my butt. It was only the step mentioned above that I got lost as to corrective action

I replied to your rudder thread a moment ago but I will address the other issues too.

I Strongly suggest you reset your model in the TX. Sounds like you might have some rates setup from the old FBL and that will certainly effect your limits.

As for equal throw, you probably need to re-center your swash in the travel. Did you collective pitch come out equal positive and negative or did you have to adjust the pitch travel on negative to make the throw equal?

Doing this isn't a problem many systems have you do this, but if you want it to be mechanically equal, you need to adjust your swash height until your positive and negative pitch travels are equal.
