Default Solid Pinion for 500

I saw in a post somewhere that someone had a solid machined pinion for the 500. LYNX makes them for the Mini but not the 500. I think it might have been DoubleCH.

My v1 solid steel pinion was based on Lynx mod 1 pinion for 550x. My v2 is now based on mod 0.8 stainless steel pinion for Outrage Fusion 50.

Interesting. What bit do you use for your dremel?

I have a stock 550X pinion... probably brass or whatever. Would that work?

I understand stock 550x pinion is 0.8mod which is good but I also understand that they are 16T which is too much. The 550x pinion I used was made by Lynx and was 1.0mod which means fewer teeth (13T). Although number of teeth was good 1.0mod was way too much pitch that's why it took me tremendous amount of effort to cut it down to 0.8 mod. The Outrage Fusion 0.8mod 13T pinion I used with my v2 pinion is much closer in pitch. Dremel bits won't work. If you have to ask, I highly recommend not do it. If not done properly you'll ruin the belt in no time and may result in crash and damage.

Stock is 15T. I bought the 16T for it as soon as I built it because 15T was too small.

Would you be able to do it for me sometime? Not now obviously since I don't have a 500 yet but I figured I'd save this for when I do get one.

Bi Guys, my first Protos is in the mail. Reading this thread I am wondering, why would you want a solid pinion? I gueas it takes away the ability to auto it down, or not? Is it to get mor tooth count options or are there real advantages to have a solid pinion?
Thanks Hobee

Some users have had problems with the stock pinion, I think mostly that it's aluminium and under hard loads can wear quickly. I've flown my Protos moderately hard and not had a problem with the stock pinion, but only with 430 blades. Give the stock one a try.

The Protos doesn't auto tremendously well anyway, though if you get the belt tension and lubrication right it's still better than most 360s (using 430 blades).
