Just did a maiden hover with a used Atom 5.5 with a sk540.

I upgraded the software before I did the setup. I used the kbdd dampeners. Cyclic gain was set at 40 to start which is a bit high for my Atom 500.

No issues what so ever. Hovered smooth for the 30 sec I had it up...

It will be interesting to see how this performs in the open air.

I am going to leave the others on 3.15 for a while until this revision has been out for a while.

Can someone confirm what settings exactly need to be reconfigured after the firmware upgrade? Can I just upgrade and fly?

You shouldn't need to reconfigure any settings but be sure to check that everything is working in the right direction before flight.

I don't think it is anything that we will be able to see in the software , I think all the changes are to the code its written in, I think that's why when we upgrade we can fly on our old settings but notice a difference, I test flew my furion 450 in my front garden yesterday it was a little windy but it was rock solid, very stable , can't wait to try it at the field, I might get the chance today and will report back, as you are aware nick, I just upped my cyclic gain a lot so it could be that that i'm feeling but it was as stable as my old beast x used to be

Larry is correct. There is no need to reconfigure your settings. Just upgrade the firmware and fly. However... for those of you that had your elevator damping gain turned down due to elevator bobble issues (Goblin owners), you should be able to turn the damping gain back up a bit. Also, I found I was able to run higher overall cyclic gains without the negative tendencies (again, this applies particularly to those having issues with the Goblin).

That makes sense. I was thinking that they had changed the defualt "Sport" "3d" etc values such as HD etc.

It was pretty good. My 700 which already flew well under the 3.31, felt like it was smoother, probably the removal of the elevator bobble. My 500, who I was having a terrible time getting to fly with 3.31, now feels solid and locked in. I updated the 500 sk540, reset it back to default and put my numbers back in for the servos and flip/roll rate. Same numbers in the software but the 500 is flying rock solid now.

For me the Gov is working really well. If I did some hard tic-tocs on my 700 where I bang on the collective I would hear a bog but all I heard yesterday on the 3.4 firmware was the popping of the air. I was running 35 gov gain which was almost as high as I could get it without tail issues, but it seems they were able to improve the gov without tail issues at these lower electic gains.

Destroyer,

I found the default bell, hiller, and dampening gains really cleaned up my 500. I originally had to lower them in 3.31. The flight performance is much better in 3.40 at default. I am looking forward to seeing if further improvements can be had by raising the default bell and hiller gains.

Glad to hear the success!

Hi all,

Glad to see there's an update. Has anyone noted any side effects? My helis are flying fine, so a bit nervous about making any updates.

same here , i flew my furion 450 this morning and it felt really locked, also the cyclic was faster than i'm used too so i will have to turn that down a bit but otherwise perfect, no bobbles , tic toks held position a lot better and funnels were effortless, all in all a definate improvement(please note i had my collective gain too low before the update and now its where it should be)

I had my head gain up to 65% and 70% on my 500 but it still felt like it was on a balancing act. The new 3.40 got rid of that feeling and with the gains that high it back to feeling stable and heavy like it should have.

Sounds like some really positive feedback. Good to know. I prefer 3.31 sk540 to vbar, hopefully everybody else will prefer 3.40 to .. everything else!

I have perfered sk540 to all other controllers since I got it. Though I must say I have not tried out the vbar or Ikon. I still feel like I need to get 1 of those but I feel I have done my part for skookum with 3 sk540s right now.

The biggest deal for me is the support from Art and how quick and helpful he is. Given though, that you get good support with Mikado, I feel like Skookum has a better presence here on the form and Art really is involved and goes above his job helping people out on a sunday. Its little things like that I notice and support.

My governor came online today after going over everything one more time, including the esc itself. I can attest that the sport default settings are very nice, with the only tweaks I have to make being the governor gain and the ramp speeds. I lowered mine quite a bit for a very soft start, but it's a little too slow for an auto bailout. I only put 2 flights on my heli per week, but now that the feel is smoother and more solid I will be flying much more.

I flew my furion 6 today with the new firmware and it felt solid and agile at the same time, It was a little windy but constant so I tried a full rudder piro just to see what it did and it stayed in one spot(near enough anyway) for about 15 revolutions before it started to drift, absolutely amazing, I even tried a very low(for me at any rate)inverted hover I felt that confident with it, oh it was about 3 feet above the grass. and I really cannot afford to crash this heli, even in the breeze it was easy to control and just felt very stable, top marks to skookum this update was worth the wait.

I gotta give it up to these guys. That's one big reason I chose their product. They will not put out crap. Even if it takes a little longer to develop, they will not release anything until it's ready. I can't wait to get my 540's up to 3.40. Just waiting on the mail man ...
