Hello,

So I tried a few years back to get into flying with my hubby. I started this forum with him and haven't really used it. He got easily frustrated because I wasn't learning as fast as him. So my question is I really want to be able to get into this with him, just not as my teacher. What helicopter is good to start out with? And how did everyone else learn.

From the first stages of hovering to flying in all orientations up right and inverted, it's hard to beat some of the ultra-micros on the market today. Personally I would recommend the Blade Nano cps. It has Safe/auto level which is great for beginners and can survive a crash better than anything larger. Most of the time you can just sit it back upright and take off, especially if you fly over grass. After you get proficient with the micro flying something bigger will be easier and completely awesome.

Now after saying all of that, nothing beats a simulator for learning. I don't try anything on a real heli until I can do it on the sim without the slightest thought. That is to say that once I feel completely comfortable doing it on the sim, it's time to take it to the sky.

I consider myself fairly new to this stuff also. You really didn't say how much experience you did have. If I was just starting out I would get myself a V977 or XK120. Both are CP helis that fly like a FP in their 6g modes. My V977 is nearly hands off hovering in 3d/3D mode. Parts can be a little tricky but there are a few kits on ebay from a place in CA and Hobby King stocks most all the rest and can have parts to you in 10 days or so.

If you wanted to step up a little higher, maybe a Blade 230s. Many positive reviews in the Blade section and it was just released a couple of months ago.
