Default Finally.... First flights FBL G5

fwiw..

Been working on this for over a year...Finally got the G5 off the ground with the BeastX....

WOW....

This thing is great!...All settings to normal on the Beast...Heli has amazing power...Seems relatively as quick as the Protos......
Beast feels great, most notably the tail...So good I think using the Beast as a tail gyro would be worth it....Piro comp using the USB was nearly spot on, only a bit of excess compensation...Was holding the TX in the air with one hand while in an inverted hover.....Just need a bit of fine tuning and it will be as perfect as it gets...My main reason for wanting fbl is the pure pitch and roll inputs the systems seem to give....This one does not disappoint.

Now for the bad news...After taking so long to complete this project, the future of the G5 seems nebulous....I hope Outrage can step up and give us a better answer as to the fate of this great but neglected heli...

John.

John,

I am starting my G5 FBL build this week with the BeastX as well. Any thoughts or is it pretty straight forward? I heard that the servo arms might need to be changed.

Thanks

I saw some long "out of stock" G5 parts get back in over at helidirect last week. I have hopes that we have been told the truth, that once Fusion parts are plentiful, they will kick back into "legacy" parts.

fwiw..

Thanks for the replies...

Build is very straightforward, I did change out the frame screws to panheads....geometry is not perfect for MB, but close enough...Use the servo ball spacing from the manual, seems good...May have to redrill the arms to get the right spacing..

Good news about Helidirect...Perhaps the heli will live on...

Good news.

I'm hoping to start the build tonight, it will probably be slow due to my wife's other plans, but I'll get there.

I ended up with 12mm out on the servo horns (hyperion) to get to the "blue light" on the microBeast. I only got to hover around in the back yard and give a few sharp inputs on cyclic to test, but I'm looking forward to beating this thing up a bit more at the field.

Worth the wait, however long.
You won't be disappointed.

Ressurrecting!

Any and all guys who are/were flying this with a beast on the stock head, chime in. I got an AR7200BX for cheap, and want to try it on my FBL G5 first. Any tips, tricks, issues you guys ran across? Ill be using HS65s for cyclic and ino lab 261 on the tail (which isnt in the beast servo database, but i know the specs, can i just find one that is the same?)

Again, any input appreciated, I'd like to get some stick time before im out of summer
