Default MSH Protos Build Reports by "Helifreaks"...?

Just curious on Helifreaks builds. I see Readyheli has already sold out of the kit w/motor.

I've read the 100+ page thread on RcGroups and it seems many people are having several problems with the first batch of kits. It shy'd me away from ordering the kit.

Anyone care to comment that has started their build.....?

What kind of problems were found on the first batch?
The Heli sure does look greate and i'm sure ReadyHeli wouldn't stock them up if they didn't believe in it, but i'll have to see what the guinea pigs say.

I'm almost done with mine and the only issue I have is the tight links. Corrado has already posted a great video explaining how to size the links. It is mostly a plastic kit so those expecting the Trex "Walmart bling" may be intitally disappointed. Overall the heli reminds me alot of the Mikado helis.

Some small problems in tolerance on some parts, and some missing parts in some of the kits AFAIK.
All pretty easy to solve with common tools, quick service by dealers, and updated documentation / part revisions by MSH once the release/review storm is over.
Nothing shocking for a new Heli manufacturers first release .
I'm building mine next week i hope.
When Helifreak is fine with it, I can post my notes/photos based on what I've read/know and encounter during the build...

Eric

all parts present in my kit. The washout hub was tight (8mm chuck reamer fixed that)
All ball links need resizing, that aside everthing goes together very well.

Looks like an interesting heli. I got to see Gscott's MSH at the field yesterday. The price is great, I can't wait to see how it flies.

Default Build

My build went great. Only thing missing were 3 ball links for the servos. Pete at Elektrorc had them so I drove up and got them on Saturday.

Only issues with mine:

- Tight ball links - Fixed with the included ball link sizer
- Really soft flybar - Ordered some SS 2mm stock and a 2mm die so I can make my own.
- Really wimpy tail fin - Trex500 tailfin as a replacement.
- Wobbly swashplate - Pete/Corrado will be giving me a replacement.

Flights have been very short, mostly test hovers due to very windy conditions this weekend. So far I like it a ton.

Some more closeup pics are here if anyone is interested: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/49999...99820401_5bzHu

What the story on the little 450 sitting to the right?

Good eye

It is a Hoss X4 frame for the Trex. I am putting it together with parts from my backup 450. Test flights will hopefully be next weekend. If it can stand up to the headspeeds I run and I like the way it flies/autos, it will be used in my primary Trex.

Default Build went very good.

This is my third heli to build. I built it in one night. (I would not recommend doing that). I built 2ea 450v2 prior to that and went into the build with some misconceptions based on the 450 builds. I really wish I could get my hands on a 15 tooth pinion but nobody has them in stock. I am running 2 3S bats until I get my Outrage 6S in. That head speed is scary but probably not for a real stick banger. I would like to tone it down with a 15. The motor gets really hot and so do my Kongs, I am guessing a smaller pinion will fix that. I cannot believe the lift this thing has. It’s like a rocket. I am working on trying to tighten up the tail. It is not as crisp as I would like, and that is no fault of the bird, I just need more experience with it. I have a 401 on it now but just purchased a DS760. I will be using that with a 3400G.
Keep in mind there is a price for being the first kid on the block with the heli. Local stores do not have parts.
If I had it all to do over again......Hel*$#@^ YEAH!

I live just down the street from you in FW and finished my Protos last Friday.

I meet a guy at the Heli Blaze in Grand Prairie on Saturday with one and he called me this morning to tell me to ground the tail. His had a static problem on Sunday that reset his gyro and it went in hard.....motor, frames, canopy and the typical stuff.....

So, ground the tail box!

@HAUCKE don't run 6S on 18T pinion. That will give you a headspeed of 3500, way too much. Do not overspeed the rotor. 2800 is more than enough.
