Default Inverted Power

I have been flying helis for a while and just started to try some inverted manuvers. I can get the heli to roll and catch it inverted (for a few seconds), but then I feel that I cannot get enough power to level the hover out and it starts to heads towards the ground. If I give negative pitch to try and flip right side up, it seems that I do not get the same type of bump that I do in a normal hover and it just hits the ground before I get enough power to flip over. I have my throttle curves at 100 across the board. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I dont know how new the heli is, but the Main motors, and in my experience the tail motors dont last long and become a power suck overcoming the internal resistance.

I have also had to do a lot of servo pushrod adjustments to get my pitch correct.

I would have said look at the throttle curve, but if its at 100% already those are my suggestions to start.

What are your pitch curves? Do you have zero pitch at mid stick? (Fold blades back and see if they are level with each other with collective stick centered) Do you get the same deflection up and down? (blades still back, go full positive and full negative, the V the blades form should be the same at full up and full down)

Are you in normal mode? Is it power or pitch? Does the motor slow down and seem to be spooling down?

To me it sounds like you're hesitating on the collective. When flipping a Nano, they like a quick pitch change during the flip. If you wait until it's already flipped to reverse the pitch it will loose altitude and bog. If your quick enough it will flip and flip without loosing any altitude or bogging bad enough to matter.

Possibly could be that your zero pitch is off, giving you too much positive pitch and not enough negative pitch.

I'm with the rest of the bunch, check that you have as much negative pitch as positive. Even before the BL motor mine had plenty of power to climb inverted.

Alternatively if you can hear the motor noggin way down it may be time to replace it.

Mark - you are right. After checking the pitch and making sure the I had the same deflection up and down I still could not get it. I ended up practicing more on the sim took it the park the other day and slammed the negatived pitch on the flips until I ended up getting the transition correct. I was hesitating when I was flipping and by the time I went to give it negative pitch I was bogging and losing altitude. After I got through the transition of the flip a few times I was able to get in and out on inverted hovers and flips with little effort. Thanks everyone for the help.

Before you flip try to pop the heli with a quick burst of positive pitch. This give it a bit of upward inertia which carries it over the top of the flip and makes catching it on the backside much less collective intensive. When "popping" try to quickly return to neutral to allow the head speed to recover so the catch has the power it needs to be effective. Collective management goes along way on the nano.

+1
It took my over a month to learn this, but when I did it all made sense. The nano needs quite a bit of collective management, so it can be a bit of a challenge to flip. But like Bobsyouruncle said, try some quick positive collective before you flip. When I was learning to fly, my way of flipping the nano was to flip it while it was climbing.

And like all other things, practice, practice!
