Default $59 Engine..

I orderd one of these for a 600n I'm basicly turning into a learner for me and a friend to beat on .. I bought this $59 engine. It's super cheap, I now you gotta pay for the shipping, but I got 3 lipos with it, and that makes it a outstanding deal.. But back to the subject at hand, has anyone had any dealings with this motor?

ASP motors have been here for a while. I knew then has plank engines, and they did their job well.
They were know to have twitchy idles (the plank version).

Hope this helps.

thanks man.. yeah i did a bit of searching and found them to be mostly used on planks, but made this for the raptor years back, and it worked just fine.. It's not a "clone" it just a older brand, not so known, but was said to be a good motor. I'm sure compared to todays engines it will seem weak, but thats fine for me right now anyways... So this may in fact be the thing to do a newbie w/nitro.. $59 come'on, it's a no brainer

Well nothing in this hobby is a gaurantee and buying the best electronics possible is no exception but i'd be very leary of using "cheap" electronics in a heli that size.

All that aside, it sure is an inexpensive 600 though!

Cool stuff. I was debating to buy that motor too for my first nitro, but went with an OS Hyper and well, was disappointed, got a nice TT Redline coming now.

As for the servos, be so so so careful... A failing cyclic servo on a bird this size is beyond dangerous. The gyro, you can't cheap out on either with these stupid Futaba clone knock offs. Nitro's output an insane amount of vibration and you'll eventually crash or have a tail failure from a cheap gyro.

When it comes to Gyro's and Servos, those are your life-line, they are what direct where your massive investment with 700km spinning blades goes and if they do fail or screw up, you or others are at insane danger.

Anyways, let us know how the motor works out, maybe pictures when you get it when you tare it down to rebuild it to flush it.

Keep us posted on how it performs!

BTW, 50 for each servo, or 50 for all 3 of them?

Could you share which ones you will be using?

so if i throw in a quark, and the 610, and get the new 52 heli motor, that bring the build up to about 850-900

just to share my ASP experience with you.. I bought (2) ASP .60 plank engines brand new for a 1/4 scale DC-3 and BOTH of them failed at the connecting rod bearing. This happened with good fuel, and Rich mixture.. no overspeed, no overheat, got both replaced for free under warranty and SAME THING HAPPENED.. got cash refund second time so no big loss except major frustration and lots of dead-stick landings on an a/c that took 9 months to complete. Repowered with (2) OS engines and what a dream plank she was, everyone landed and took a seat to enjoy watching

Dunno how long ago it was that you had your ASP 60`s but I`ve got a ten year old blue head ASP 46 aero engine and a black head 61aero engine that are still going strong with lots of hours on them. Never had any problems setting them up on 10% nitro and over the past few years I have dropped to 18% oil in all my helis and planes without incident. If I remember correctly the early Red head ASP engines were prone to conrod failure because they had a single oilway to the bearings whereas the later versions have two. ASP, SC and Magnum engine are made by Sanye and all the Heli versions are built to OS exhaust and mounting bolt patterns. There`s a review of the 52A on another RC review site site ( which I don`t think I`m allowed to name) and the guy gives it the thumbs up for power and knocks a few points off for the carb not being up to OS standards but you wouldn`t know from his video. The $59 engine from HK is a bargain but I saw this as I was trawling the interweb and couldn`t resist a punt at £69. They`ve left the prop driver on as well so that I can run it in on the bench
