Default Lepton Gyro/Servo question

I just got a Logictech 2100/3100 combo, and wanted to use it on my Lepton. Does the 3100 servo have enough power for the tail with 68mm blades? I do have a Futaba 9650 I could use, but really wanted to use the 3100 if possible. I fly mild 3D.

The Lepton tail is a tad weak and the 2100 is not much better than a 401
It will blow out when you add collective and the tail is already under pressure

You need to get your head speed over 2800 and use ~68mm tail blades
That works very well - tail is fine

No idea about the servo

I decided to go with a Futaba 9257 instead. Thanks for the reply though. Will this servo be overkill for this heli?
Thanks

Definitely not - I have a Spartan and a S9257 on mine

I am building a lepton again (used to have one but sold it about a year ago). I am giving the 63T pulley a try to speed up the tail. Hopefully it will be solid. I am using 770 3D and 9257

http://www.world-of-heli.de. It is a german site. Apparently they sell a lot of Hirobo stuff and they custom make 63T pulley. It looks really good (look stock). I can only tell mine is 63T by putting next to a stock one.

Their communication is not the greatest but I got the pulley about a week later so no complaints from me.

houstonrevo - Have you flown your Lepton with the 63 tooth gear yet/? If so, how do you like it?

Just hovered it and did some punch out and I have to turn the gain down to about 20 on HH and still get some bounce back. I am using the 7703D and the KBDD tail blades. I am going to try some shorter blades because I have heard finless cutting down the KBDD blades for the protos to get rid of the wag/bounce.

I can tell the tail is a lot more powerful from that stand point. Still have to play with it more to get it to my liking

Where do you find carbon for the lepton? I have a hard time finding them.

Thanks

I just got a set of Radix 72mm tail rotor blades from Grand RC. They look sweet. I also go the Radix 430mm main rotor blades. I just haven't had a chance to fly them yet. It's been real windy here and now it's been raining all night.

Anybody have any luck getting 7703d to work good. I need to know the servo arm length and gain.

I am at 13mm and travel adj on the gyro is about 1/8 turn from max out. I either get wag with the tail holding well on punch out or no wag but tail not lock in on punch out.

I am using the plastic black helidirect tail blades. They are longer than the stock ones.

Thanks

What headspeed are you running?
You need like 2850rpm to get decent tail holding on the Lepton

Thanks,

I will have to tach it. I don't think I have high enough head speed. But will low head speed cause the tail to hunt?

Because the 770 does not have any settings other than gain
you have to attack the bounce with mechanical changes

So a good head speed and 68mm tails are the go

Go in as far as you can on the tail servo horn
but you may need to try a full size tail servo

Are you running a decent amount of expo on the rudder? Like 40%?
You need to - that has the same effect as softening the stop
And make sure you smoothly return the rudder stick to center - don't just let go

I don't know if the Align blades work, but I know for sure the Radix Blades won't.

I bought some Plastic 68mm Tail Rotor Blades for my Lepton, they seem to work really well. They are soft though, if you hit a rock they chip. Pics are in this thread: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=132308. World-of-heli in Germany has some pretty decent carbon tail rotor blades for the Lepton. I haven't had a chance to try them out but they kinda look like the ones ReadyHeli used to sell a couple years ago.

After 2 years of fighting this thing I finally got the Leppy set up properly and she is just solid in any maneuver. Honestly I cant believe the performance I'm getting with my set up!
I really really recommend the 63T tail gear, It will bring everything to life!
Set up: HS Idle1 2750 Idle 2 2800 governed
GY 401
CC 85 hv
Madusa Bec
63T Tail gear
Scorpion 1000Kv , Had a Hyperion -10 but cooked it during a set up
20T pinion
Align 425 mains
Rave Plastic tail blades! 60MM. I had the KBDD T-Rex 500 70mm and they seemed like clown feet (floppy), With the 60MM they just seem to cut into the air and hold.
TP 3850 V2
I was going to sell it and give up on it, But now she rocks now and I'm keeping her!

Thanks to Jafa for all the input too!
