Problem with Motors not starting up...
Howdy Y'all...
I have a Flamewheel 550, with the Naza M...upgraded to firmware 3.12... I can't seem to get my motors working... I've gone through the setup multiple times, and everything seems to check out with that, ie... All the Tx functions move in the right direction, all are centered (except throttle, when low). I know about the Combo starting procedure, moving both sticks in certain directions... I've read over the manual, and there's nothing that jumps out at me for why they're not working... I'm using a JR 12x, set to acro mode, throttle curve is the 0-100 linear. I've even attempted changing the T curve to 10-100. I keep it in manual for now, with IOC off, LED blinks, "orange" 2 or 3 times, I believe... I did this all yesterday, and forget... I've read through this entire forum, and didn't see anything, and even tried a few things I thought might work... Nothing... help... Joe_Breezy

You cannot arm the Naza until the orange/yellow blinks stop. It is recommended that you wait until the entire sequence is completed that means, no red blinks indicating satellites are locked, green flashes complete indicating that compass has a lock on direction and home position is set.
Did you do the Advanced IMU Calibration after your upgrade? I would strongly recommend that you do that even if it is not recommended. You will be glad you did. Make sure that you don't move the quad until the calibration is done. |

I did do all the calibrations... BUT, I did some of them in the basement... So, I think I need to get some things upstairs, or outside, and try the calibrations again...
I have yet to find a good resource of what each of the LED sequences relate to... I think it's red, that means Failsafe, which is something else I can't seem to do... Just remembered that, when I turn off my radio, the software does not switch to "failsafe." I think tomorrow, I'm just going to bring it upstairs, and start from scratch... do the whole setup over again... Maybe that'll work... As a side note, it is possible to set up "failsafe" on the JR 12x, and its 12 ch Rx, just like I've seen done with the Futaba radios..??? Thanks, Joe_Breezy

The JR and Spektrum radios set up the failsafe in the receiver. That takes a separate programing step. I would refer you to the manual for the receiver to make sure that it supports preset failsafe and to your manual for the Tx to show you how to set it up. |

Thanks.. I actually did a quick google search, and found a video.... I still need to figure it out, but basically I need to set up a mix with the Gear ch. and the Flight mode channel...
This way, when I move the Gear ch into "failsafe" it will move the flight mode just out of GPS... Atti. or Man, and into Failsafe... Then need to bind it will failsafe on (gear switch in failsafe position) and throttle at least 50%... That is how it was set up on a JR 9503, which I can probably figure out how to setup in my 12x... I really hope I can get all this working today... It has been bugging me... (read, driving me crazy.) for a few days now. Anywho... I wrote the above in case anyone else finds this thread, and has the same problem... Here, I'll post the video as well... Remember, this is with the JR9503, NOT the JR 12x, but the programming is close enough, you should be able to figure it out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=HxX7ofavCME Good luck.. Ok.... Now I'm starting to lose my mind...
I've tried nearly everything I can think of, short of testing each ESC on the throttle output of my Rx, since I think the chance of getting 6 dead ESCs are nearly impossible. I plugged it in, manual mode, blinking stopped, LED off, after blinking while searching for satellites, tried to start motors... nothing... I hear them initialize when I plug in the battery, of which there is enough charge... BTW: Noticed something when I tried to do advanced calibration, there was a warning that stated, "remove power from MC for 10 minutes and plug it back in.) Why is this? I tried disconnecting the "main" wire to the MC, but then the calibration stopped... Am I supposed to unplug the servo connection to the MC while performing an advanced calibration? I was going to try something else... Going to try to switch it to only 4 rotor system, see if it works, then go back to the 6 motor system.... I've watched a bunch of setup videos, and it seems like I have tried everything, or have everything installed correctly, but still motors running... I hope I can get this figured out soon, before I go crazy.... Joe_Breezy

What does it mean when you attempt to arm the motors, and all you get is the LED flashing green, quickly for a few seconds?
Still not starting up....

Joe,
Can you shoot a short video of what you are seeing? It would help a lot along with some screen shots of Assistant. Normally it is not this hard as you have seen from the videos. You can get through this. |

Sure, I'll do my best to get everything....
You're right, it shouldn't be this hard, and I can't help thinking, I'm overlooking something simple... Tomorrow, I may try to swap out Rx for my 9ch, or even one of my 7ch Rx, to see if it happens to be the receiver... Which would be a big smack in the head... Thanks, Joe_Breezy As a quick note, so far I have been seeing everything I've seen in the videos and such... with the exception of the motors activating... <grin>

A couple of questions:
You mentioned you upgraded to 3:12, so can we assume that you've had this hex up and flying with the previous version? Or is this your first attempt at setting up this multi? I can see from your signature this isn't your first rodeo , but with the NAZA there is a bit of a learning curve if you've not done it before. My guess is something isn't plugged into the right port. I have the exact set-up you do. The LED sequence for me at start-up is: Amber flashing until the unit warms up. A set of Rapid green flashes indicating it's warm Green with red flashes as it find the sats And finally green flashes at regular intervals Then the stick combo to start the motors. I did notice that when I upgraded that the stick combo changed for start-up to both sticks at lower right - but that's not your issue. You need the VU to give that regular green flashing at the end of the sequence. r It looks like your VU just goes blank at the end with no blinking at all (at least that's what I see in the video) r Last edited by Rumblecloud; 05-29-2013 at 02:25 PM.. Reason: watched both videos to check for VU LED sequence |

This is my first attempt at getting her flying...
When I plugged the MC into the computer, it prompted me to upgrade, so I did, not knowing things have been working fine with the previous FW. Before I started putting this together, I found a great install vid on youtube, think it was done by the aerial media guys... But, it showed where to plug everything in, plus I've seen, by now, many more install videos which show how to connect everything, so I am confident it is all connected correctly. The one thing I should add, with the second video, I had reset everything to defaults, but the only thing I haven't done is go outside and calibrate the compass. (I started feeling sick earlier, and stil feel terrible right now, so won't get to things till tomorrow... assuming I feel better) here's my plan... I will calibrate the compass tomorrow, if it still doesn't work, then I'll revert to an earlier FW. And, if that doesn't work... I'll just pick up a v2, since my LHS guys are good about letting me return stuff... I'm not starting to think, I've got a bum MC... Thanks, Joe_Breezy

Your issue is GPS calibration. New in 3.x, if gps is connected and gps calibration has not been done you will get this error and will not be able to arm.
Please let us know if GPS calibration fixes your issue. |

What happened to me when setting up my hex (just last night) was... it told me I needed to calibrate the compass. I was in my living room and just did it there and it was fine.
I only watched the first video you have here but all looks normal... imu warms up with the yellow rapid flashing.... bunch of green blinking to show its ready, finds the sat's.... if your switch is in normal mode I dont think you will get any LED. All I can think of is for you to try lowering your throttle trim as sometimes ESC's will not arm as a security if your TX throttle does not match your unit. The MC thinks your throttle is up. It's a simple fix but sometimes works. Also, try rebinding your rx. GOOD LUCK |

From your video, it looked like you had trims in your Tx, first 25sec. Please remove the trims and recalibrate your Tx in assistant. Make sure that you do not have a channel reversed. Throttle up moves the slider right. Rudder right, slider right. Aileron right, slider right. Elevator up slider right. As ES3 stated and I also mentioned. When you upgrade to v3.12 you need to do the Advanced IMU Calibration, whether it says you need to do it or not.

And, if all does work, I'll be throwing this thing out the window... <grin> well, not really. Thanks for all the help! Joe_Breezy Hopefully I get to it today... yesterday ended up with Stomach flu, felt better this morning until I received a phone call telling me my grandfather passed away last night... So, I'm a bit torn up today... but thank you for all you help...

Problem with Motors not starting up...
Thank you for your kind words... In the plane right now on the way out to Boston for funeral...
I'm seriously going to lose my mind though.... I picked up a v2, and new Rx, went through the setup, and again, the motors STILL WON'T COME ON!!!!! I have tried everything I can possibly think of, and everything you all have suggested, but still nothing... I assume some of you out there have these working with JR/Spectrum radios? This time, I thought for sure it would work.... I found out about setting the fail safe on the Rx, which I had not done before.... (Because I never read any of the Rx manuals... Lol After getting everything hooked up, per the manual I d/l online, I followed it this time step by step. Upgraded FW to 3.12 right away. Went through all the software settings ONE AT A TME. Everything appeared to work, per the software. All the "sliders" moved the correct way, all the way, with the correct input. IOC is off, failsafe was grey, unable to choose, even though at the time I had GPS connected. The did basic and advanced calibration. Turn on Tx.... Plug battery in.... All ESCs sound like they arm, with their beeping. LCD does as it should, in manual mode, found satellites... (I think, because it stopped blinking, just as my V1 did). Then... NOTHING....!! So, this time, I reconnect it to the software, I disconnect the GPS so it isn't a factor. Go through all the software setup steps again.... Step b step.... And in the "view" page it shows up as I should, with everything reading the correct flight mode, and such.... So go through the startup again... Tx on... Battery.... LCD not blinking, manual mode... Again... NOTHING... I even started checking all the solder points thinking I did them backwards... But they're correct. I'm losing my mind!!!!!!!!!!!! Will be it of town till Thursday... But feel free to suggest Anything, or ask anything... I have done this so many times I know the machine inside and out... Thanks Joe Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I've seriously considered your folding hex. But, wonder if it is possible to order one minus the gimbal, and possibly other "extras" I don't need? But, am interested. Thanks Joe_Breezy
