Question "HELP" Castle BEC PRO with Phoenix Ice HV 80

Need Help.

I got the BEC PRO and need some help. Should I go with a 2s lipo on the BEC or run it connected to the HV 80 and my main power(12s lipo)?

The BEC is rated for 50V but i dont want to burn out my electronics. Also is it safe to use the HV 80 with the spectrum AR7000?

I would use a 3S with the BEC. I don't understand the AR7000 question???

You can run either. One of the major reasons, in my opinion, for running the Rx battery is to correct the CG on a tail heavy 700.

EvanD. I was asking if the Spectrum AR700 receiver can handle a 12s setup. A 3s 2200mah 25c is what i will try first and see how teh CG is. Thanks

im going to go strait from the 12s to the bec pro and get rid of the 2s rec pack all together, once I get my new kde receiver mount in the mail. any thing to get this beast under 11 pounds.. just got the KDE bearing blocks in and they work great.. My stock bearings were getting notchy after only 8 flights...

I'm going to run through 4 common electronics setups for you quick:

- 8v Cyclics with receiver pack -
50v main pack to ESC
8v 2s receiver pack to AR7100
unregulated outputs (8v) from receiver to cyclic
7100 regulated (5.2v) outputs to tail/gyro

- 8v Cyclics without receiver pack -
50v main pack to ESC and BEC
BEC adjusted to 8v to AR7100
unregulated outputs (8v) from receiver to cyclic
7100 regulated (5.2v) outputs to tail/gyro

- 6v Cyclics with receiver pack -
50v main pack to ESC
8v 2s receiver pack to Align 6v regulator
6v to receiver
6v outputs from receiver to cyclic
either 7100's 5.2v reg output to tail/gyro or stepdown from unregulated rec to tail/gyro

- 6v Cyclics without receiver pack -
50v main pack to ESC and ICE, CC Pro or WR BEC
BEC to receiver
6v outputs from receiver to cyclic
either 7100's 5.2v reg output to tail/gyro or stepdown from unregulated rec to tail/gyro

See there are so many ways you can hook stuff up... To answer your question though,
No receiver takes 50 volts input. They take up to 8. How you get that voltage to them is up to you, either by using a 2s pack, a 6v regulator or an adjustable BEC. It all depends on how you want to run things and what you're willing to pay for.

On my T-Rex 600 ESP, I have the following configuration:

50v main pack to CC 110HV ESC
8.4v receiver pack to Align 6v regulator
Align 6v regulator to AR7100
AR7100 unregulated (6v) out to BLS451 cyclics
AR7100 regulated (5.2v) out to Spartan/BLS251 tail

This works great for me. I get perfect CG with the pack placement. The receiver pack runs 6-7 flights safely without needing a recharge and the 6v regulator has a nice little power switch on it as well as lights to show how much pack is left. If I needed 8v cyclics, I'd just eliminate the align 6v regulator, plug straight into the 7100 and use the power switch on it.

Just remember that if you use a 7000 or other receiver that does not have a 5.2v output on it and you need to run 8v cyclics with a 5.2v tail, you will actually need something like 4 voltage drop diodes in series to bring the voltage down enough. I believe each one drops the voltage .7 volts, so 3 would drop it 2.1 volts and 4 would drop is 2.8 volts. I've never seen anyone do that, though. Everyone I know with a 5.2v tail either runs 6v cyclics & 1 step down circuit or has a 7100.

I hope this was helpful!

RBGRN,

WOW! You have a 12s 600 ESP. Was it hard to upgrade it. I have a 600 esp with the 650L motor,100a ESC and 6a BEC. I'm still new the the game but have all helis from 250 up to 600. This will be my first 12s(700e 3g) but felt the 600esp was a little under power. I didn't know you could run 12s on the 600. I was going to put a 8s bat on the stock motor but didnt know if it could handle it. I'm sure I could find some info about it.

Thanks for everyone sharing there setups and help. This is only my secound time using theis website and i should of used it more before and i would have saved about $2k in repairs and upgrades.

RGGRN,

Is it ok to run 6v to a DS650? I have the same thing setup on my 600esp with the DS620 with no problems. Looks like a lot of people are runing 5.2v to the tail. Does 6v shorten the life of the tail servo?

Sorry if this sounds like a dum question.

it's not dumb...I asked the same question before. Heard that you need a stepdown on the 650, but it's not true. it's rated for 6v so no stepdown needed.

and by the way, go to the 600 forum and you'll see a sticky about making a 600 12S. I did the same thing and it was just awesome! But I sold it last week and went for the big boy.

There are plenty of tail servos now that can run 6v. It all depends on the specific model. If you want to get 6v to the tail, you can't use an AR7100 because it only has one rudder output and it is regulated to 5.2v.

I am running a DS650 at 6V without any issues.
