Question Upgrading from Dx6i And Need Recommendations

So after 4 years with my dx6i, I sold it today and I'm ready for something else. Moving From 450 to 550 size helicopters and wanted to upgrade my radio as well.

I'm inclined to stick with Spektrum for familiarity, but i know that there's a ton of stuff out there from Futaba and JR to the tenptingly low priced Frsky X9D.

As I'm planning to be this hobby for the long haul, I want something that will last.

I know some of what's important to me. The things I really would like in my next radio are:

-Telemetry
-Backlight
-More than 6 channels - I know.that's vague but I want to be able to run a gassers and do things like adjust my gyro gain in-flight
-Needs a wide enough user base that I can find info and help as I need it.
-affordable rx under $100

What would you recommend as a next step to a long time dx6i user who wants to upgrade to a more long-term radio? Would the best value be to jump to the dx9 or try something else?

Get as many channels as you can afford...
Stick with the big brands...they have readily available services...
If you want to go FBL then most of the "programjng and setup" will be done via PC kn the gyro....

As far as "which one" to get in particular... we all have the ones we fafour... and each will tell you that his is the best...

But you must make out your own mind....

As migreig said above, everybody will tell you that their radio is the best, only you can decide whats best for you.

But as a pointer, stick with the main stream brands and you wont go far wrong.

Just look for a radio that fufills all your requirements and that you can get receivers for locally.

The DX8 has telemetry.
I would say anything with telemetry is worth the price of the upgrade.
And, not having a voice is not a big deal
