I can recommend a good learner plane (it is "Plane", by the way, not "Plain"). HobbyZone make a model called the Super Cub. It's a simple three channel (elevator, rudder and throttle... no ailerons). Great, easy flier. Even children can pick it up in minutes. But it's capable of very mild aerobatics, loops, stall turns and the like. And it is about the easiest thing to take off and land, very floaty, glides well.

If you've never flown a plane before, it's an excellent place to start.

I would actually mention the Champ, great little plane, very easy to fly and forgiving.

+1 on the Apprentice, it's still fun to fly even after you get past the learning part

I learned in the day when the starting options where a Kadet, an Eagle or a PT so I'm not swell versed whats out there now...

But one thing I want to advise is that unless you think you wont stay with airplanes, do not get a 3 channel plane to start. Go directly to a full 4 channel setup with ailerons.

3 channel is seen as more stable easier to learn on, but you actually end up learning some bad habits using your right thumb for rudder, that you will have to unlearn when you get to an aileron ship. With the right dihedral 4 and mild throws 4 channel planes can be made more than stable enough to learn on.

I see far to many fixed wing pilots that never bother to learn rudder and end up all over the runway on takeoff and landing and make sloppy turns in the air. At my field we see at least one crash a weekend during the summer due to this. You will be a better pilot if you learn to use rudder with the left from the start, and coming from Heli's you already know how!

I wanted some fixed wing stuff to balance out my flying skills. The OP already has a Stratos so really does not need something like a Champ. The Parkzone T-28 is a very popular plane and a step up from the Stratos.

However, I found flying wings to be more fun and more exciting than actual airplanes. They don't need a runway so you can fly them just about anywhere. They are much more crash-worthy than planes. None of them are RTF or BNF so you do have to build them. For the cost and fun factor, the 900mm Popwing from Nitroplanes, is really hard to beat. A complete kit with everything except RX and battery is $67.

Hobbyking sells the same thing as Teksumo.
