Interesting, an anodized aluminum case...

Sounds aesthetically pleasing!

So the question is does a lower number mean that it is a lower end unit, or is it just an arbitrary naming convention.

They had a 360 and then a 720 which is twice the numerical value.

So 520 means????

I take it as follows:

SK360 = 2-axis gyro (NO tail gyro)
SK540 = 3-axis gyro (NO accelerometers)
SK720 = 3-axis gyro (WITH accelerometers)

Yeah i imagine it fills a demand for a cheaper flybarless system without all the bells and whistles of the 720...

Just like the sk720 is in competition with the vbar, CGY etc... This would be aimed at the BeastX and 3GX etc crowd.... That's my hypothesis anyway!

I've got the February/March 2012 issue and it isn't in there.

Did a search and found this. Doesn't look like their regular "about us" info.

Their China site?

Makes sense. I do hope the 540 has the same (or similar) physical dimensions as the 3GX. Drop in replacement.

Skookum definitely needs a lower cost product in order to be competitive with all those $200 flybarless controllers on the market. Most new helicopters never consider the SK720 because of the price.

Only Nine(9) positions on the servo bus vs Ten(10) for the SK-720. So you could probably
get an idea from that.

Still has the ext. LED position. Hmmm.

Dual 3 axis gyros. Very interesting. I wonder what the advantage of having 2 is? Would love to hear some comments from Art.

I guess the advantage of having 2 is that you can average the results... Should reduce vibration induced errors and drift.

Not entirely convinced its any better than just using the latest state of the art gyros however.... But SK know what they are doing so we'll see.

They have to keep some distinguishing features to justify a higher price for the sk720... I wouldn't be surprised to see the gps remain exclusive to that one, this being aimed more as a simple hardcore 3D model without the extra bells and whistles.

I had made a quick comparison of the two on RCHA: http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/flybar...son-hc3sx.html

IMO apart from the setup, they are miles apart. The self leveling on the SK720 just didn't work for me, but I'll post an update on the weekend when I next fly it - I think I've eliminated the tail vibrations that I got on the first few flights.
