Default Head speed on Hawk Pro

Hi, this is my first nitro heli and I'm in need of some help on the setup. I am using the O.S. .32 and stock wood blades. So far it flies really nicely and I'm slowly evolving my pitch and throttle curve as I get more comfortable with it, but I don't know what the head speed should be with this setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any helpful tips with this heli that would be awesome. I have an mCPx and Blade 400 that I fly as well, but again this is my first big heli and first nitro.

The first consideration relative to what head speed to set a heli at, would be the type of flying you want to do. The nice thing about the design of the rotor head in the Hawk Pro is that it is comfortable at any head speed from 1400 on up to 2000.

Also of consideration relative to safety is what head speeds the blades can handle safely. If you are using wood blades and have glued the plastic roots on properly as per the instructions, you should be safe up to about 1800. If you are using good composite blades like the Funkey silver blades or good carbon fiber blades like the Rotor Techs, then feel free to crank it up to 2000.00.

For gentle scale like flying you may want to set for rotor speeds of 1400 to 1600.

For training or sport aerobatics, you will get an easy to manage cyclic response using rotor speeds of 1600 to 1800.

For 3D, then you can go with better blades and use from 1800 to 2000.

In the 2000 range I would recommend that you install the 6mm spindle upgrade with the thrust bearings for longevity and safety.

As for how to match your throttle curve to the pitch curve, you may find this article of interest.

Thank you, I've been wondering for a while. I have no idea what the current head speed is. Is there a good inexpensive head speed tach on the market? I have been flying the crap out of it as is, based on feel and guessing, even managed a couple flips. I'm still working on my pitch curve and throttle curve, I'll look into that article soon. I wish Century had more setup information in the instruction manual. So far it's a great flying heli. Here's a video of the other day, 4th through 10th flights approx. I am only using the wood blades for now, but as well as it flies, I may just go ahead and buy the rotortech carbons. I'm debating the CCPM mod as well. My blade 400 is CCPM and seems like it's a lot better system. Would it be worth it on this heli or should I just fly it as is and spend the money on a Vibe 50 or something along those lines for more advanced flight?

Inexpensive and good can be a fine line.I sure do like the Western Robotics tachs.I had a Minature Aircraft tach years ago but it topped out at 1900 rpm.I am sending you a PM. Take Care.
