so were you able to confirm that lipos that were considered dead have new found life after the mod? or did you never really have one that was weak?

Not dead (stored after storage charge) but they do seem to perform much better now

Your IR figures says it all really!

You mean before and after mod?

Darn it, I was at the LHS yesterday and forgot to ask about connectors.

Where is the best place to buy some micro deans connectors? Are there different companies making them too like with the full size?

What is considered a decent price for 20 connectors?

Just search on ebay, lots of cheap clones there too.

Heck yeah it helps!!! You have convinced me to convert all my batteries over to a better connector.
Actually, battery connector size is the main reason I haven't stepped up in heli size.
But, if I convert all my batteries to the larger connectors, I'll just change the heli's over to the same size.
Problem solved.
I bought 4 micro deans today, and I'm in the process of converting my first Lectron battery.

I have put a lot of Dean's micro plugs, original and clones, on Hyperion 550's. I found that the clones where more difficult to get a good solder joint on and the pins where typically loose in the plastic housing. Neither of those where the case with original Deans micro plugs.

Default I'm out! :D

OK, so after trying this for a while now I have to report that it wasn't such a good solution, as least not for me.

The problem is that's it's very hard to get the solder to stick to the battery tabs. And the tabs are VERY thin & fragile. So what happens is that the solder comes loose after a while... resulting in in-flight cutouts.

So I've abandoned it and in stead gone for thicker silicone wire and 3rd party connectors that can be bought (need replacement now and then):

I'm sure that'd work well.

Default HH BL kit

So I am thinking this will have similar results with the HH BL kit, not to mention that it has more connectors in the middle.

you by no means want to remove the old solder from the tabs. Alu is hard to solder to which is why I said whatever you do, don't remove the old solder.

I obviously missed that part

Jokes aside, I didn't remove any solder. But unlike you I didn't solder onto the existing wires, which seems to be a better way.

Well, I finally got around to trying this and it absolutely worked for me. I had a handful of JST connectors left over from a night flight build so I used those. It added about 0.75g using the connectors as you normally would which is a bit heavy for my liking. So I ditched the housing on the nano side and made my own out of heat shrink and LET (see pic). I soldered the pins on in reverse which also allowed me to shorten the leads considerably. After it was all said and done this mod added 0.25 grams including battery.

Anyway, this has breathed some new life into my nano and with two year old Oversky's no less. I am sure some fresh batteries would wake it up even more which I am now inspired to buy.

Thanks a ton for the tip blue92ehsi!
