Default Governor necessary?

I am using the sk720 blue with a scorpion opto 160 amp esc. The scorpion governor worked well before on another heli, so I was going to use it in lieu of the sk720 governor. Any ideas on this? Is there any advantage to using the sk's governor and is it even possible as I do not have a sensor on the main blade.

On another note I am mounting this on a trex 700 and it is difficult to find a good place to mount it away from any electronics but still be near the CG. How important is this? Will the bail out being significantly effected if I don't have the sk mounted right near the CG?

Any help is appreciated!

The bail out will work well regardless of where the 720 is mounted. Putting it closer to cog helps with lateral vibes is all. For the bailout to work you need any nasty vibes on the heli under control. Basically factory spec. And the sensor (Hobbywing at $3 to $4) needed doesn't run off the head but off the esc motor output lead. Yes, the difference between the Skookum proactive gov and any esc based gov is noteworthy.

+1 When its working, it works great. Not sure how good the Scorpion governor is after the new firmware. I hear it has improved. But I would doubt its as good as the Skookum as it cannot see the future like the SkGov can.

There is some setup involved. But if you can work through that I feel its worth it. Even if the auto-rotation bailout still needs work.

Does the Scorp have a multi rotor mode in it? This would solve the auto issue. Sorry for going OT here.

=] a true gov needs to know what's happening at the sticks to prevent bogging and overshoots, the SK gov manages all of this, it may even be necessary to use this function with the "pitch boost" that is in testing stage now?

esc firmware is being developed currently to provide a proper auto bailout, this is independent code to SK firmware, reversed engineered, watch this space!

Thanks for all the good feedback, it looks like the sk720 will be superior as a governor. But my flying style is pretty mellow and I may use this heli to take a few photos of local architecture, so do I need the "greatness" of the sk720, as it seems to be more involved to set up, but this may be due to my lack of familiarity.

Any thoughts from the collective?

It took some tuning and many said it couldn't be done. But I was able to get my Skookum to governor well at a very low headspeed (1600 on 600). It does provide a nice mellow, smooth flying heli and the power is still very consistent. My ESC governor would never be able to do that.

Which ESC? Are you beta testing?
