Default How long does a clutch usually last on a 90 Nitro When Flying 3d?

I have a friend that seams to be constantly chaning out clutches, at first he was flying the trex 700 which I believe just has a terrible clutch and it would break like every 5 flights, he even bouht the lynx upgrade ad that didnt last very long. Now hes flying the new avante aurora and this one seams to be going every 25 flights or so , sometimes sooner.

hi, im flying a 600N and i have never changed the clutch. I have changed the clutch liner once, but never the clutch. I have flown atleast 15liters through it. I am real impressed with the Align .50 engine. Havent even changed glow plug.

Had my 700 for 3 seasons now with the Lynx clutch (upgraded as soon as I got it) and never had a problem. Sounds like something is a tad out of alignment for it to be burning up clutches like that.

How fast does he ramp up the throttle when spooling up? I see some people who almost gun the thing to get it to spool up quickly, then I see the ones who ramp the throttle up to the point where the clutch starts to engage, and they allow a little time to equalize the speeds before ramping up.

I personally haven't owned a nitro heli, so I'm not sure if there is any aligning of the clutch bell or something.

I had a 600N which I flew for over 12months, and never had to change the clutch or liner.

My main machine now is a 700N with a lynx clutch. This was used when I got it, but is still going strong, even after 1 season of flying.

I also had a 3Dplus which I had to change clutch from 5-50 flights, but I was unlucky and got compensation for those that broke way to early. Something about hardening process. My current one now has 20 flights on it.

I guess you probably know that if the clutch-liner is worn thin, the clutch has to expand even more before it hits the walls and makes contact. Since this sounds like a fairly new Aurora, this should not be an issue at all. The indication is however late engagement..

But if your friend can get a hold of a dial-indicator (or how its spelled) then he can gently clamp the engine, with the fan hub and clutch on, and check how centered it really is. I have read some old treads about clutches being eaten, if the fan hub isn't centered.

This is the only thing he can check, as far as I know. It's not possible to do the mechanical setup wrong here. It only fits together one way..

Being a hard 3d pilot myself i tend too go thru clutches every 50 flights or so however if he has not maintained or replaced his clutch liner at all that could be an issue i broke 3 clutches the same day because of a bad liner tell him too check his liner

On the T-Rex 600 and 700, I firmly believe reclining the bell with a thicker liner, such as the hirobo liner, is the cure to clutch problems.

My T-Rex 600s first clutch lasted 300 flights, and was only changed out because I had the engine out an figured it was about time.

My T-Rex 700 has been the same story. First clutch lasted 270 flights before a shoe broke.

I use the hirobo liner, and only 1 wrap of electrical tape around the clutch.

How do you figure? The clutch engages from centrifugal force from the engine RPM. If your auto RPM isn't much higher than your idle RPM... Auto'ing would be no different than idling.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Please do explain this....Autos are idling and the clutch bell and clutch are not touching each other.
Completely disengaged.

Sorry, meant to say bailing out of an auto. When you bail and flip back to idle up it tears them up quick!

Ditto...some of my helis have clutches with over 500 flights, with having only to changed the liner on some of them one time.

The only 90 I've got any length of time on is my Raptor 90SE. After a couple years of flying I have never changed a liner or a clutch due to wear. I've had a clutch shatter due to a crash but that's it.

Sounds to me like a setup issue or some other user error. I've heard of people using this liner on a 600 but don't recall on the trex 90.
