Ok, I'm having a problem printing these. I right click "save image as" and then in Pepakura I do setting, texture setting and change to the one I saved. Then I hit print and it comes out all blurry when it prints. It is so blurry that I cant tell where to cut. I hit no when it asks to resize or whatever which is what I have read. I'm confused

Right click on texture and click "Save target as". I think thats what it says. That should give you the full resolution when you open it up.

I read the "save target as" in this thread somewhere. When I "right click" it doesnt give me that option. When I import the texture into pepakura it looks like it is zoomed in.

I am using Firefox if that makes a difference.

Fire3, click the image you want, it'll open up, click again and it should open in a new window full size, right click and select 'save picture as'. Upload saved image in Pepakura, job done!!

Do you have to open them up in that program or can you print from windows picture viewer?

There are 2 images, 1 with the texture and screen is for Pepakura, the 1 with 2 canopy sides and triangular top can be opened and printed with Windows viewer, photoshop etc, the triangle shape should be about 78mm long when printed

Thanks Davy! I think that will work, I cannot print here at work so I will try in tomorrow. It looks a lot better now in Pepakura. Now I have to download all of them again.

I got it to look much better, but when I attempt to print it it comes out like this.



That is 3 pages and thats all that comes out. Any ideas?

Fire3, I guess you can see 2 canopy sides and top in pepakura?

Try file,export,bmp/jpg, save as a jpg and see if it opens ok in windows viewer

This was very helpful to me. I am a linux guy so Pepakura is not optimal. I have been just trying to get the jpegs to work. If I open jpeg and print from Gimp, the scale is wrong. If I print from Firefox, scale is correct. Not sure what is up there, but my point is that now that I know what the proper dimension is for that one part, I can adjust scale in Gimp to get output I need. Not only that, but is seems the scale of jpegs that are being posed are not consistent. Thanks a bunch.

Well, I have even a bigger thanks to Raggedyman. In post #138 he attached some photoshop files that i had not used until today. I opened that in Gimp no problem. I was able to select different sections and do all kinds of cool stuff. At print out time, I had to scale the image though. This may be to same problem with Gimp I mentioned before. Just trying to work out the best scale to use. BIG

I used to use glue sticks and pva, but that obviously gets a bit messy so now I use really sticky thin double sided tape which is fantastic and easy to use! Another trick I use to make these is, once I have cut out a piece, I put some of that clear sticky lamented plastic stuff over it which also works quite well in looks as well as strength.

OK, so I have been experimenting for a few weeks with the concept of using transparency sheets while making these. Inspiration came from 755_robert and tommy217xxx, so big thanks to them.

Much time has been spent finding just the right scale of image to get size of canopy I want. It turns out Gimp changes scale depending on what quality of printout I select. In the end, I go off the length of the long triangle side of center piece and distance from tip of nose to back fin on side pieces. ~72mm and ~132mm respectively.

Notes on paper and transparencies: I have tried both glossy and semi glossy photo as well as regular paper. Glossy is the best looking, but probably adds more weight. These were made with semi gloss only because I ran out of glossy. I know there are many types of transparency sheets. I went to Staples and saw packs of 100 for like $35. Ouch! In the end, I bought ten sheets from copy center for $.29 each. I wonder if they make one that will allow inkjet printing?

1) Print out your canopy.

2) Attach the transparency sheet to the photo using blue painters tape. Cut out each part seperately.

3) I used Contact Adhesive I had laying around. Spread thin even layer of adhesive on photo paper. Apply transparency later while pushing air boubles out and smoothing adhesive for an even layer. Notes: I found I had less boubles if I did parts of canopy seperately versus doing the whole sheet at once due to drying times. I experimented with different glues and this is the only one that held. However, I plan on trying the spray kind next as this tube is not easy to use.

4) Let dry for 12 hours.

5) Cut out the exact canopy parts. Clean surface if glue has gotton on it. Now is also a good time to make canopy mount holes. Notes: I think the bottom of canopy is not correct in template, so I kinda do my own thing there.

6) Using blue painters tape, tape the seems from outside. Notes: I tried several types of tapes, and this is the only one that does not leave glue residue. Also, I like how the pieces of tape can be re-used.

7) Apply Contact Adhesive on seems from inside of canopy. Let dry at least two hours. Notes: Again I am using contact adhesive because I like the strong yet flexible properties. If anyone has another suggestion, please let me know.

8) Assemble the halves along with center piece with tape. Glue inner seems. Let dry two hours.

9) Finish glueing bottom of canopy and apply more adhesive to corners that will see more action. Like the seems on back fins and near swash plate.

Again, I am sure there is room for improvement here. I would really like some imput on materials to try.
