There is a double ended wire that must go from the rx to the 3gx. All the signal wires must also be properly connected between the controller and rx before the 3gx will allow itself to boot up. I tried to power up the system and then connect the servos and signal wires one at a time while mapping my channels. This failed. After hooking everything up and cycling the power the 3gx worked.

I was worried about DOA as well.

airbound...

this might be an issue for others too.. On two separate occasions I've been asked to look over two different persons 3gx installations and assist in the initial setup. on both occasions the 3gx acted like it was stone dead.

In both cases we unplugged the units and re-wired them according to the manual (both times the wiring appeared the same as before). Yet on both occasions both of the 3gx's "came to life" and worked normally after the re-wire job.

I assume there is some mistake that is easy to make yet hard to spot, because both units and the wiring appeared the same both before and after the re-wire.

Go figure?

It's very easy to mess the wiring up I had this problem with mine, turns out I had one lead in backwards and it stopped the whole thing working.
Take extra care when connecting it's easy to stuff up.

Default wiring

I'm setting mine up as we speak (awaiting my batteries from the mailman). I assume that the single colored wires going to the receiver are plugged in so the wire aligns with the 'signal' post.

Thanks,

Bert

bd...

All plugs with a single wire should be aligned so the wire goes to the signal pin.

Badfrog -- Using a single satellite receiver, and with version V4.0 software installed, you need to plug the satellite into the ANT2 port, not ANT1 as directed in the program. BIND the satellite to your transmitter -- binding plug installed in the lower right horizontal connector at power-up. If using V4.0 and a DSMx satellite/DSMx Transmitter, push the little button as you apply power to the 3GX. It will bind in DSMx mode, and I also believe you need to set your TX to 22 msec, not 11.

If using a DSM2 satellite, install the binding plug in the lower right horizontal connector, apply power. Again, the single satellite must be plugged into the ANT2 port, not ANT1.

If using V3.1, the satellite will work fine in the ANT 1 port. No DSMx support is available in V3.1 or older software. DSMx satellites will bind and operate in DSM2 mode.

BDTRAUMA -- the single wire in each of the connectors plugs into the receiver and the single wire IS the signal wire.

Power to the separate full-up receiver comes from the lower right hand horizontal connector of the 3GX connector block. GROUND is on the LEFT, +V in the middle. If you were using a 7 channel receiver, the other end would plug into the receiver's "governor" control channel. Power gets to the RX through the red/black wire, the governor control gets to the 3GX through the white wire. (Governor works for nitro heli).

You could also just use a two-wire connector (power, ground) between the lower right horizontal connector and your receiver's power input port. Again, on the horizontal connectors, GROUND is on the LEFT.

For the 3GX to "come alive" it needs to be either connected to an external receiver that is functioning properly, or if using satellite receivers, you must bind them to your TX before the 3GX will fire up. As long as you have NO functional receiver connected to the 3GX, it will not power up.

S.Bus works fine. Just got finished helping a fellow up in Idaho using an S.Bus Futaba receiver. Plug things in correctly, make sure the receiver is functional and bound to your transmitter, the 3GX will come alive.
