Default Small Investment-Big Return

Hi Guys!
You probably know of this but it was new to me. I bought a pair of the Harbor Freight Head Strap Magnifiers With Lights for $4.95 and used them to clean my servos. l tried spraying the other day without disassembly and it really was ineffective. Using the Harbor Freight cheapy made the job a snap.To be honest I was really intimidated by the size of the servo screws through my 67 year old eyes but under the headgear it was easy. Inspection of the rest of the bird was also very revealing under the magnification. The amount of carbon on the contact strips was considerable and it appeared the spray without disassembly did nothing. Soldering up a new tail boom was also a snap.

The lights on the sides of the magnifier took some fiddling with as the bulbs weren't making contact but once working they illuminate the area in question very well. I almost bought the Bausch and Lomb for $40 bucks but decided against it because it didn't have lights. I am sure the optics are better on the B&L but for $5 the Harbor Freight unit is a buy!!!!

What did you use? Caig Deoxit D5 works without the need of dissecting the servos.

Go for the deoxit. Best stuff I've ever bought. No need to take them apart, a quick blast cleans the servos great and lasts a long time. I blasted mine weeks ago and they are still running smoothly. Its not cheap for a can, but well worth it, should last a long time anyway with a quick shot here and there.
Deoxit contains a lubricant that helps a whole lot making the servos move nice and smooth
