Default Helimax esc question

I've been out of flying since it got to cold to fly outside and I switched to my cars for the winter. Now that its nice I started flying again and now i see that esc's can be run without steve's.

Before I take my current setup apart, anyone know if the helimax can be run on a v2 board without a steve?

I'm not sure but I believe you have to flash the esc to use it with out a Steve's converter. But more importantly you can run a governor.
Pm nccraig he can explain in better detail than me.

Is the walkera and helimax the same esc just rebranded? Can I wire it the same way as the walkera?

I believe walkera and helimax 10A are the same ESC. Just rebranded.
However Walkera ESC has many different one over the years. Some works
with V1 but not V2, some works with V2 but not V1. And some works both
V1 and V2. I guess most of the different is due to the firmware. BTW, works
I mean using walkera ESC without the converter. Dylan has a nice post regarding
this. And I have found more exceptions. It all depend on what firmware it has.
That is about the only annoying part using the walkera ESC.

I have 4 walkera WSK-10A-L manufacture in Dec last year(from different source),
they confirm works with both V1 & V2 on the register spot. Some if you can
get a recent walkera 10A ESC, chances are they are likely to work with both
V1 & V2 (without converter).

However if you buy helimax, it is hard to determine how recent is the firmware.
You might have to try it out to find out. As far as I know, the Helimax rebrand
of the walkera 4#3b a while back.
