Default T-rex 450 pro V2 serious tail bearing problem

A friend Ronald of mine was suffering from a severe tail wag of his new (1 month old and never crashed) T-rex 450 pro V2!

We first suspected the gain (BeastX), but that was not the problem.
Tail servo was ok, tail control link and slider were ok. (without binding)
Push rod and ball links where ok, and where sliding without binding!
Until I noticed something, I saw a little gap between the metal tail holder and the tail blade grip! The gap appeared larger than normal so I took off the blade grip and guess what The blade grip bearings were completely broken to pieces!
I have the bearings replaced and the tail wag was gone.

Align is really having a problem with the bearing in the tail for some reason I had the very same problem. Nasty wag until I replaced the tail bearing and wag disappeared.

You will not believe it but my 450 pro V2 tail bearings buckled also today, I was doing a backflip and out of nowhere my tail responded no longer. I was barely able to save my heli. On the ground I noticed the same gap between the metal tail holder and the tail blade grip! The blade grip bearings were also completely broken to pieces.
The only difference is that my 450 pro V2 has 155 flights on it!

I dont trust the Align bearings no more!

I'm thinking about boca bearings stainless steel

measurements we need are: 3x6x2.5mm and 2x5x2.5mm.

Must agree Boca bearings are some good ones to use.

Happened on my 450 pro V1 as well.

Heat up the grips to get the old bearings out (loosens up the thread lock).

Replace with some good replacement bearings from a hobby store (online or local).

I recently had the same tail bearing issue with my new 450 pro v2..

The bearing disintergrated as per the first post..

The problem was that the outer race of the bearing remained glued to the tail grip... and was glued tight!!! I tried everything to get it out ... I even heated the tail grip... which turned a black tail grip into a "Bronze" coloured tail grip.. aaaarrrrgggghhhhh...

Eventualy, I had to mill out the outer race with a 5mm mill bit..

Now my pro has a half black / half bronze coloured tail... so be careful if you decide to heat the grip..

PS: My pro had only 15-20 flights on it as at the time of the bearing failure -

it seems I am not alone with this problem !!

It is a serious design issue of the blade grips on the 450 pro version or it's a low quality bearing problem?

All the stress and force is on the outer bearing (2x5x2.5), the only way to solve this problem for good is to use thrust bearings! the second best solution is to use high quality bearings, but those bearings are expensive and should also be checked regularly.

Anyway the use of a radial bearing with such axial loads is not good!

maybe someone knows if a replacement tail (or blade gips) with thrust bearings exists that fits the 450 pro, or are there thrust bearings that fit in the original Align 450 pro blade grips?

Regards danny

I had some nice bearings from my touring car that are same size. I also ordered some from r-bearings.com. they sale an entire retrofit kit for 450. Cheap and way better bearings.

Hi smrceo,

Did you also have a tail bearing issue before you buy the entire retrofit kit ?

Yes my grip bearings were toasted. I think they were fine out of the box but since they were so weak and a real light tail strike on anything side loads them so bad at the elms they spin that they just fall apart. Im running 500 skids now and the new bearings in grips are getting it done. Good luck!

I am having the same issue on my 450Pros and really don't like how much slop there is in the tail control. Are there any companies that make a good replacement tail assembly for the 450Pro?
Thanks

There are good upgrades to get the slop out of your tail. KDE makes dual flanged
radial ball bearing supported tail grips and precise machining tolerances for the brass bushing sleeve
en. Align has the metal bell crank upgrade and there are also complete new tail pitch sliders to get rid of the slop, but there are no upgrades for the blade grips.
