Hi Carey.
Great work as usual. Can you share your thoughts about flight performance? Who would you recommend this model for? Thanks. |

Well the model is an NX4, which has thousands of flights behind the design so anybody who wants a smaller model would be happy with that
I think most people that can tune an IC engine can get this figured out. They key for me was putting it on a test stand with a prop on it to find some baseline settings. Much like the GT15 I don't' think I would recommend the T10 conversion to anyone with NO liquid fuel helicopter experience. I have not had any issues with the engine but then I've taken the time to do a rather extensive break-in (which most folks either can't do or won't do) and at least the settings I'm running don't resemble the settings in instructions. I have an overview video that includes a flying segment in it that will be posted in the not too distant future

Hi Carey.
I can understand any reluctance, but I'd really like to learn about your journey with the T10 gas engine. From my perspective, the only current path to guaranteed gasser success is to get a Zenoah engine from one of the well known suppliers and put it one of the available conversion airframes. This is way beyond my financial means. I just can't afford the upfront cost nor repair cost for the inevitable spud. This is why I'm so attracted to the smaller gasser projects. They just represent a better fit with my means. The problem is the smaller engines just don't seem to be robust right now unless handled with expert hands. I would really like Gaui to offer a "startup" T10 club. Everyone buys common equipment from a low, mid, high price selection range. All learnings get published; progress is assisted with a set curriculum; the "class" gets to graduate at around the same time. |

yes this is true
took me 2 gallons to break in my GO-Engine 56 for my raptor 30, and at approx 45 minutes at idle, at times is extremely boring and you just want to fly her......yo have to wait, i purchased 3 guai t-10 motors that had blown connecting rods because of that, and rebuilt them, and just for an FYI,
1. the guai t-10 2. GO - Engine GH56 3. hobbykings Apache 56 well they are all built in same factory the T-10 has different head, not for better cooling, but to fit their NX4 |

You are mentioning %20 oil, do you mean 1:4 ratio? Manual states 1:10, however I use 1:8 (full synthetic) Additionally I am having interference after I increase the throttle and when I put the canopy on. My electronics' location very similar to yours (a also started a threat with pictures, https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...32#post6792032) but the interference is still there. A friend of mine suggested to neutralize the CDI cable by covering it with an electrical tape since he believes that CDI cable touching the canopy is the reason for interference it self. Just wanted to have your opinion on these. Thank you. Yusef |

Hi Yusef
yes, the engine uses bushings on the connecting rod instead of bearings which would be typical for gas helicopters so I'm using an oil ratio more typical to glow engines. I am using a THIN oil at that ratio, like Red Line synthetic or Morgan thin oil in regards to your interference:

my cap was loose! Perfect diagnosis! I also made a cutout and put electrical tape to CDI cable to avoid any short circuit. I am planning to try again within this week to see if everything goes well. Happy new year to you and all gasser fans! |

Thanks very much for the T10 Breakin Procedure video. I just wanted to clarify: You used Red Line for breakin, not Lawnboy? When you were done with breakin, did you go to 10:1? Thanks!

hey
I used red line thin oil from the start mixed at 20% the only reason I chose red line is because its a thin oil. Morgan makes a thin synthetic oil as well which I verified will mix with gasoline which should work equally as well. Most of the glow fuels that have high oil percentages either use thin oil or a mix of thin and thick using mineral based or blended oils will reduce the amount of time to seat the ring.

Cruzroy,
Which exhaust deflector are you running? Is it standing up to the heat? Looks good, I want one!

Some dumb questions
First and foremost, thank you for the great thread.
The GX4 is my first fuel heli (I know, I know) and my first solo build (I know, I know!) I'm slowly putting it together. Assembled most of the frame. So my questions are: 1. What is the best method to enlarge the hole in the CF panel? 2. How do you disassemble the fuel tank? I'm afraid of damaging the fitting. Do I need to pull the fitting out, or the grommet? I'm sure I will have more questions along the way... |

I just used a sanding drum in a dremel
as far as removing the fitting, squeeze in some oil between the fitting and grommet and then carefully pull it out. I used pliers but you have to be very careful not to damage the fitting

Tank fitting
I'm still unable to disassemble it, and I've managed to inflict some serious damage on the fitting. I think it's as good as gone. Do you know if a different fitting can be used? Or do I need to order another tank?

okay I checked with JC at Empire, Gaui does NOT sell the fitting separately
so unless somebody on here has one to send you the only option is to order a tank, sorry

Tank fitting

I've found in another thread that one can use Align fitting and grommet, so there's still hope! |

I've been using this, works great, never leaks! http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/TREXSTOPPER.html Fits perfectly snug on the main tank, if you run the header you'll just need to ream the opening slightly to install it.
