Default "Y harness" wiring question

Hiya all

I've made myself a "Y harness" to link two 3S batteries up for my T-Rex 500. I made the harness out of 15Amp wire bought from Maplins, (the heaviest duty wire they had in the regular red/black configuration). Here's the link:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx...y=19m2#overview
After putting the harness together, (with deans connectors) and testing it on the ground a mate of mine questioned the 15Amp rating, particularly given that our ESC is rated at 60Amp.

I plan to carry some AP equipment with this and do some mild 3D, (not with the AP equipment on :-) ) so do want it to handle the higher currents.

This obviously worried me, but I can't find any information on this. Does anyone have any input on this. Will this wire be ok or do I need to find 50/60 Amp cabling?

Thanks a lot.

I'm sorry... the link seems to have gotten mixed up...

Here's the correct link.

Cheers - that works better!

Assuming you're going to series up 2 x 2500mAh 20 or 25C LiPos and you're going to give the heli a bit of a spanking, then you do need something comfortable with 50 to 60 or so amps.

The cable you're refering to has a conductive surface area of 1.19mm2 which is just not cut out for that kind of current, particularly DC.

We're only talking large burst currents here on very short cable lengths, so you need to be looking at the XS74R which has a CSA of 3.53mm2 which will easily take that kind of current on the lengths you're using. Unfortunately that's web order only, so you can't nip in get it!

A better alternative, again web order, is this:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...=9910&doy=19m2

That's 13AWG silicon insulated cable - the stuff they use on LiPos and Series Harnesses anyway, and is slightly thinner, more flexible and higher rated due to the insulation and stranding used.

Brilliant Mark. Thanks a lot for your response and suggestion. I've ordered the 13AWG silicon cable and will replace the harness that I've already made with it.

It's a good thing my mate questioned this. I can just imagine me burning through the cabling while carrying camera equipment. That would have meant no control either - so no option of even auto'ing it...

Pays to check on the forums.

Thanks again Mark
