Well, I was hoping to get her in the air today for her maiden flight but the new batteries are still cycling. 2 more cycles will make 5. I still have to check all the screws for tightness and I should be ready. But, my nephew called me this morning to inform me he reserved a 3:00 tee time. I put him off all summer but I couldn't blow off his reservation so I went golfing. Bad idea to go in the hottest part of the day! I had to take a rain check for the back 9 holes because I ran out of gas. It was 2 years ago I last hit a golf ball plus we wasn't allowed to drive the carts off from the cart lanes due to all the rain we received the day before. Unfortunately I think I'm starting to feel my age now

However old you are, if you are flyin heli... U are still awesome! Sounds like you golf was off because you were dreaming about flying your v2 rather than the game at hand. It's all good man... Enjoy a great evening filled with preflight checks and taking photos of your new bird. Congrats

I would put a piece of Velcro down on the battery hold down area. The strap is not strong enough to keep the battery out of the motor.

The Velcro strap appears heavy enough. But, your suggest adding a piece of Velcro strip across the flat battery support surface And Velcro strip laid across the bottom of all my batteries?

Much thanks for the advice & pics! I never noticed this little detail before now. I just thought everyone was advising to use Velcro Straps, not meaning to add Velcro Strips as added security. I'll do this mod before taking my first flight! Definitely!

It's important to get the batteries secured properly because there is no other protection to keep the batteries from sliding back into the motor. If that happens in flight it's almost certain to ignite the pack. Check out this thread....and that guy did have velcro installed, although he probably secured it too close to the motor to start with.
My advice there is two fold.

Nelsonisms tips are bang on..
this is the box of industrail strength velcro I picked up last year when I got my 450x.. its AWESOME. the hook side even looks and feels different. it comes in a big roll... so cut it to size. it'll come in handy when you need to velcro down bigger 6s and 12s packs too. I also second the Scorpion velcro straps. they are one of the best I've used. they come in 4 sizes.. the one that works on our 450x stock frame is the "small" size.

I just went to the LHS and got some velcro battery straps, the kind with the plastic buckle. Basically these:
WAY more secure than the stock flat strip of velcro. I have two batteries, so I cut the soft side in 1/4's, and used two pieces on each battery, and the full length "scratchy" side on the heli. With this strap pulled fairly tight (but not so tight as to deform the plastic frame or crush the battery) the battery doesn't move at all.

I use a similar strap but I also use a full length piece of industrial velcro on each battery with a full strip of the hook part on each helicopter. I have 12 batteries, 6 for the 450X and 6 for the 300X.

Last night while going over my heli I decided to mark where to place my batt's in order to get the CG as close as possible, this was before I applied the velcro strips to the heli & batts. Needless to say, the velcro strap wouldn't even hold the batt in place long enough to check the CG. I stopped what I was doing & went straight online and bout the Scorpion straps that Nelsonisms was kind enough to point out. Thanks Nelsonism for the tip.
Off topic but, if all goes well I'll be binding my TX to the heli tonight for the first time, do I NEED to insure the table the heli will be setting on is level? Or, will it not matter during the binding process.

It doesnt matter for binding purposes, and trying to find a level area in a field is virtually impossible. Near enough level usually suffices.

It doesn't matter at all how the heli is situated when it's bound or during initialization. BeastX knows nothing about it's orientation in space. In fact sometimes BeastX will not initialize in high winds because the wind is moving over the blades and vibrating the heli. In that case you can simply set the heli down on it's side so the blades are on the ground to eliminate the vibrations and it will initialize. Then just pick it up, set it on the pad and take off. No problem.
Some FBL systems with self-leveling features require you to set the level plane of the heli, but that's not something you have to worry about with BeastX. The only important thing to be aware of when you're binding is to make sure you bind it with the controls in their "failsafe" positions. These are the "failsafes" that the controls will go to in the event you lose reception. Generally that means 0 throttle, neutral pitch and all other controls centered. The receiver stores these at the time it's bound to the transmitter. It's a good idea to test this once you've got it bound. With the blades off of course! Spool up the heli, give it full positive pitch and then turn off your transmitter. All servos should go to center and the motor should shut down.
