Talking 300x "Outlaw"

This photo inspired my idea of the outlaw heli. Sort of rat looking.....but smartly modded for high performance (for a 300x ). This is the original outlaw! I may try to copy the skids.

I love my indestructible skids.

I don't accumulate as many flights as quick as my go-to heli Protos but I'm loving my 300X today again. The 1.5-year 150+ flight old nanotech 25C 1500s are still good. So are the cheap $7 Corona metal gear servos. Stable, fast, and precise enough for me to piro-flip at 1 spot. The X2-clone blades are efficient, responsive, yet stable. The Hyperion HS2213 is efficient as always. My custom low-head with home-made no-j-bolt-hole mainshaft is awesome. Stock plastic head and tail are great with my custom head dampers. BLHeli running in AE45A ESC with heatsink removed is awesome as always. Whole heli is smooth as always, vibe-free and wobble-free. Love it.

The toothbrush tail fin is epic... or if it was a plastic knife...

I've been trying to figure out which fast food place has the yellow plastic utensils. But I think he broke that one and replaced with a white handle now.

DCH....we could use an update photo when you get a chance.

The yellow tail fin was a plastic knife from the "party pack" with 12 each plastic knives, fork/s, and spoons from dollar store for a buck. The knife handle was heavy so I drilled some holes on it. My latest version is also "party pack" plastic knives from dollar store. This one is 48 knives in 1 pack for a buck. I like this one better because it's much much lighter and more flexible (not like the old one which was brittle). It's so light I double up to increase strength. Even doubled up, I get 24 replacement tail fin for $1.

Here's a screenshot of the youtube clip I posted recently.

I don't log number of flights on my 300X any more as I haven't flown it as often as I used to but I think it must have had about 2300 flights by now. As I last posted on the "What did you do today" thread in December I was going to receive some debut batteries from HobbyKing for secret testing. Turned out I was sent 4S packs which were too much for my 300X (but perfect for my 3S FPV250 quad).

On saturday, I received my second batch the correctly spec'ed ones for my 300X. Now that HobbyKing has announced this new Graphene battery, I'm allowed to reveal them.

The 4S 65C 1300s work really well on my 3S quad it's like nothing I've ever seen in terms of performance and more. However, without other 4S packs I fly with my quad there's no apple-to-apple comparison. That's why I got excited receiving the 3S packs for my 300X. I broke them in on saturday with some easy flying.

It's time to stress test them on Sunday. The Graphene 1300 performs good today and better than the nanotech 25C 1500 which was not bad to begin with for my setup. I was going to stress test the battery to the next level by swapping in the Lynx motor but unfortunately a mechanical failure leading to a crash ended the day short.

A swash follower arm hinge pin came off and the vertical arm swung out and wedged the swash plate outer plate, resulting in pushing the anti-rotational pin and broke the bracket, allowing the outer swash plate to rotate CW. This results in twisting the servo linkages and thus lowering the swashplate dramatically. With trailing-edge pitch control, that means full positive pitch. In the split-second of heli coming towards station area I managed to redirect heli away and hit throttle hold. Of course of all places it could land it had to land on the pond! After drying all the electronics thoroughly at home, seems like everything still works. Even the servo gears and blades are fine. Damages I can see so far are bent mainshaft, 1 bent head linkage, 1 broken servo arm, re-cracked plastic frame (where I had fixed with CA and tissues which worked very well) and of course the missing vertical swash follower arm.

It sucks to have to work on my 300X which I haven't done for a long long time, but I'm looking forward to getting it fixed and try out the Graphene lipo with the Lynx motor. With what I experience with the 4S packs on my 3S quad (pumping 60A from the 1300mAh cells no sweat, 80A doable), this is going to be good and I know my 300X will see more air time in the near future.

Heli fixed! Test spun up to speed smoothly. Can't wait for the nice weather tomorrow to fly. Hopefully it will fly like normal again and I get to swap in the Lynx motor to compare.

Back to more high power 300x flogging with graphene lipo units. nice.

Will soon be dusting off my 300x in prep for its annual inspection....ha ha.

Cranked up HS to 3900 today since I know the Graphene can handle it no problem at all.

Flight time 3 minutes down 80% (putting back >1000mAh). Pack has barely ANY temperature over ambient. This was the 4th flights at 3900rpm my fingers were tired and lost steam first. The chilli and windy conditions didn't help. Usually at this low temp lipo performance suffers. Either these Graphenes don't suffer as much or they are not even breaking a sweat at this level. Really love these lipos.

Yeah quite amazing. Maybe there's some holy water in the pond that baptised the servos. It's quite apparent that these X2-clone 255mm blades are quite overwhelmed by the power. With the increased rpm it's not really providing exponentially more thrust, pretty much what I anticipated and mentioned early on. At this power level stretch is the way to go as I mentioned. I know stretch will work much better knowing how well my Protos stretch works out but I like to keep this heli cheap to replace parts and I love the low-drag and low cost of the X2-clone blades which I still have a few pairs. To be honest I don't really need this kind of power anyways so I think I'll keep it as it is.

The stock tail fin is on because I broke my knife tail fin. It's actually not painted just some orange duct tape.

AliExpress, as mentioned probably on this thread earlier and definitely on another thread. Apparently some other people have tried to order from the same vendor but no luck and the vendor pulled the item from the listing some time after. Many many months later I found another vendor on AliExpress selling the same blades just $0.50 pricier, like $10 or so per pair. Nobody has reported ordering from that vendor.

Tried out 4S with my setup out of boredom today. It was an impromptu act so I didn't gear down or strap down the battery properly so no real 3D. Lynx 4100kV with 13T is way way way overgeared with 4S but I just wanted to see how the system cope. At 3700rpm it's way way way under the optimal 5000 with 13T but the low motor speed didn't fall out of efficient operating range too much in terms of power. At 4000rpm HS I don't know if it's the sound or the quick warp speed punch-outs it makes me want to go pee.

In terms of efficiency, the over-gear must be hurting some because 4S 1300 draws 50% in 2.5 mins while 3S 1300 draws 75% in 3 mins. CG is actually not bad without canopy, battery mounted all the way back and with stock heavy tail fin.

Yes, you'd run 11T on an Oxy on 4s to acheive 4000-4500 rpm with the EOX motor...

Yeah I calculated 11T or 12T would be optimal but like I said this is impromptu run and I'm so confident with the Graphene I know it can handle. At least it hasn't burnt up the Lynx motor yet so I know it can handle 4S once properly geared. Still wonder what's the difference with EOX v2 that Luca said can handle 4S. Mine is the first version I believe.

I ran my original scorpion 2213-14 on 4S a couple of days ago. 12T pinion on the 136T helical main gear governed to 4000 RPM. WOW. I had a similar experience you had with my 1550 mah Pulse 4S. I was getting 5-6 minute flights as opposed to your 4 minute flight times however.

Regardless, the power at this RPM is crazy. No bogging and super crisp response.
