I had the same problem with a new 15t pinion. Contacted Bill at MSH Direct and he sent a replacement but been afraid to try it. Just went back to the stock 16t. I really hope MSH gets this pinion problem fixed because it's a really nice bird.

he has to replace them out of his own pocket and msh won't take them back even if they are bad in the bag.

you have to replace the motor shaft as the mini is too small for a warp pinion.
not sure if you want a 25 motor those things are huge power more for the warp or the x3. Plus of course battery eaters.
Yep, power consumption is a bit of a concern, but still would be curious to try it. As I said, I won't do anything yet till I run out of pinions.
Let us know how you go when you do the shaft swap.

looks like helidirect as usual has the pinions but not the shafts they have the 3.17 pinions on sale for 7.00 so I will go that way for now. I am broke so 9.00 with shipping verses 22 is a big difference.

Are you going to use that on the stock Mini shaft?

I put in a 2221-10 motor in the heli so I removed the stock shaft the 3.17 and took the shaft out of a problematic stock 3s motor. now I am going to have to switch them back.

How are the Warp pinion going to work? From the pictures it doesn't look like they have the one way built in like the MSH ones.

Default these pinions are really starting to suck.

You loose the OWB of course but that's better then crashing. Hopefully lynx or someone else will make a main gear with a OWB like it needs to be done.

Maybe we ought to collect all of the bad pinions in one spot, sent them to MSH in Italy and tell him to stick them where the sun don't shine.

Good idea I mean this problem is not new. People can live without tail drive in a auto rotation

I would gladly give up the driven tail during autos to have a robust and "normal" one way in the main gear configuration!

Hi,

I think I have a bad OWB... Heli spools up, lift off to a roughly 5 foot hover to check controls...bam, loss of power, heli floats/auto's down, no damage, motor seems to still be spinning, but not getting any traction. Throttle down, repeat, same thing. Is this the correct diagnosis or am I looking for something else. (battery related, esc, overheat, yada yada)

This happened 6 times within 2 batteries today. Happened upon full throttle right off the bat, figured might be something with the battery voltage or something...tried again, lifted off, again 10 seconds later power cut, floated down, motor still at speed. Third time, heard a click, everything seemed fine. Flew for several minutes of forward flight, landed, switched packs, then same issue. Kind of frustrating when also trying to configure/tune/diagnose a new heli.

This is a new heli, only a few easy flights on it....

What do you think, is it the pinion/owb?

Sounds like OWB. You have put it together with the right side up?

Man although I´ve only ever had a bad one, this whole pinion debacle really s*cks. Especially if the dealers have to replace them out of their own pocket, WTF MSH??? Is this from the marketing 101 - how not do it? And still no reaction from the company directly. MSH apparently has very little budget in marketing. So the majority of their new customers must come to them by word-of-mouth and the MiniP is often recommended on here when people are searching for a 450. I think I´ll stop recommeding for now.

Background: I have ordered 4 pinions so far, one of them was bad: Tough to slide on the shaft, gritty and hardly freewheeling. My dealer replaced it no questions asked. The ones that slip right on the motor shaft do hold up well for me (150-200 fligths until worn), although I must say that I mostly fly @ 2700HS. So I´m doing the QC for MSH. I cut them some slack, it´s a small company after all. But if the replacement policy from the dealership changes, this could be a major reason to give up on it.

Yep, this issue does pose a problem when recommending the heli to someone as I have already to my mentee, but I don't want to land him in the middle of this debacle
