Scorpion Backup Guard.
Use it like a battery but you don't have to regularly charge it because it only kicks in if your BEC drops out. Rick

First time I have used one. Seems like the best of both worlds. Gives me redundancy without having to continually recharge. I generally have used either a battery or just the BEC. I've never had problems with my BECs but I sure have recharged a lot of batteries.
Thats the cool thing about a hobby. We get to pick our poisons. Rick

Your second cable from the Kontronik doesn't have a signal wire in it, so a torroid ring is not needed Rick.
I use the Backup Guard, too, saved my heli already once

I'm not 100% sure you are correct though. Kontronics provided two cables each with a ring. I would have thought noise could be received in the power lines as well as the signal lines. Where did you hear this Laurens? Cool that the backup Gaurd worked for you. Rick

Just something I remembered from school. I can't really imagine that noise will have a bad effect on a DC power supply line in our applications.

I am VERY grateful for guys like you who have imagination and talent for things like the maddening task (for those who lack the aforementioned ) of running wires, attaching components, etc. I'm also very appreciative that you share all this so generously,
All those links for the sheathing, the connector kits ?...I just ordered from them . Thank you ! Doug P.S.-I may have missed it, but when anyone I'd love to see methods used to attach ESC's,Voltage regulators, etc ? I fly both nitros and electrics, I know there's the velcro, velcro straps, etc. but just wanted to hear of any other ways to do it.

I don't fly any Nitro so I am no help there. I almost exclusively use velcro and nylon ties. I sometimes use the 3M double sticky thick tape but I can't think of the name off the top of my head. Rick

Thank you ! I have some of that tape and wanted to see if others have used it, that stuff is awesome. Just for fun I attached a metal fuel tank on a c/l nitro motor powered profile plane, so lots of vibration, lots of fuel, and that stuff held like iron.
Even when used on a nitro heli the double thick stuff seems to provide a significant help in vibration reduction. To remove it Just about the time I'd think I would break something trying to release the tapes hold then "pop", off it comes. It's good to see American companies still lead the world, and by God, 3M and Scotch kick a.. !

I've fallen in love with my heatshrink method, its a PITA to do but it has never caused a failure in the air.

I'm hoping to be able to get one of your large style receiver mounts for my 500, that will really clean up my install. I know they're relatively inexpensive, i just need to get around to it Last edited by jdfelosi; 04-14-2013 at 03:42 AM.. Reason: added pics |
