800 pro dfc motor seems HOT
These big birds are new to me, so when I land the motor seems very warm , like its difficult to hold your fingers on the top , I believe the guy had a temp gun and checked it was 60C or so. The castle is just a bit warm, the batteries are just a bit warm, but the motor is hot man holy smokes. Normal ?
Goverened head speed, 1600, 1750 and 1900, I mostly stay in the 1750. Cruisin around big air. |

What setting do have in the motor tab in your ESC. This can have an effect on motor temps. 60c doesnt sound too hot though, imo |

The 850MX motor compared to say a 700MX runs a lot hotter. First time I flew my 800 pro I thought he same thing about the heat. I was worried enough not to fly anymore and checked that there wasn't any binding anywhere making the motor work harder creating the heat. I called the local hobby shop and they confirmed that the 850MX runs noticeably hotter. I'm no expert on the actual heat temperature numbers, but someone out there may be able to shed some more light on these.

I think I have the settings correct, 10 for the pole count or whatever, 12 kHz timing instead of outrunner mode, 490 kv, and gear ratio entered correct.
Ya like dare I say when you come down and sniff around the motor it smells sharp like glue ! At first I was thinking waa is the glue melting ? I had a 550 pro before this with the 730 mx motor also a red housing motor and it would barely get warm. But then again it .... this bird is way bigger and moves around with way more authority so I suppose somethings gotta give. |

I fly a 800 pro and 700 pro on the 850mx both run fairly hotter than my old 750mx not hot enough to worry though

You gotta remember that when you land and shut the motor down the coils expel there heat into the motors can. The motor runs cooler while running do to the fan pulling air through the motor. My sons scorpion in his 700 use to read 210 degrees right after shutoff and 100 degrees outside.

Well mine is also very hot. It's not possible to hold your fingers on it, my buddy burned his finger when touching it
My HS is 2050 rpm, I like to mess with it in the air, some nice 3D. Anyone can tell me correct settings for motor to gain maximum power ? What does the Stator Power does in castle settings ? Also what timing do you use ? Mine is at middle. PWM 12kHz.

Yes I am also pwm of 12 and stator timing in middle, someone on the skookum forum looked at my vibration logs and said there is either a motor vibration coming from up and down shimming (which is already tight on mine) or a magnetic noise which can try to reduce from esc settings, but I have no clue what to try.

I was having a heat problem too.
I would turn down the pwm to 8KHZ (6) would be even better....and turn your timing to LOW.. The motor will have plenty of power and run cooler |
