Seems to me you must be having hydraulic lock. Do you have a fuel cut off or line pinch between the tank and carb?

I use a line pinch type cut off on mine and never have hydraulic lock.

A buddy up in Buffalo had the same problem with his Falcon SEIII (long story for that model #). Basically he left the plug in the exhaust pipe and tried to start it, it hydrolocked, busted up the castle and broke the pin on the start shaft.

We are using the same procedure, but I'm running the OS 50 in my Falcon. If anything, it should be worse, but I've not had the probelm you are having. I've been flying my Falcon(s) for almost four years now and have not had the problem. :?:

This is a well know problem that the Falcon has. Some people says is because hydraulic lock and I am pretty sure this is part of the problem.

I dont understand how it possible that Century have not come with a better thing there to fix this problem.

I am pretty sure they sell a lot of plastic fans as spares..............

As part of my start up procedure, I always turn the engine over a couple of times by hand. This is to make sure that it isnt locked.
For my Hawk, I make sure the shaft is fully engaged before energizing the starter.

Are you using the KSJ clamp that has the slide on clamp on one side and the line plug on the other side.... if you do...
I use this and have noticed that after a couple months that the gap on the clamp doesnt hold the line as tight as it did thus allowing some fuel to be pumped into the engine on fuel up. To fix the clamp I have pinched it shut with a pair of plyers and heated up the plastic with a lighter... this "Remolds" the crimping part closer together allowing for a better pinch.... a quick way to tell is that after a fuelup...pick up the heli and see how much fuel poors out out of the Muff. Ore... pinch it off with a set of hemostats that lock and see if the starting symptoms changs?
Hope its a simple solution.

I had the exact same thing happen to my Hawk (TT39) yesterday on my 3rd tank. I believe that it was a case of my engine starting backwards and yanking the starter wand off to quickly. I replaced the plastic fan with the alum one. Hopefully that will solve the problem - that and a bit more care when starting.

I dont think the Fan is going to make a difference to which direction it starts.
