Need Help setting up HeliCommand with 9CH rx
Hi Guys,
I need someone to walk me thru this install, I have a HC rigid unit, and need to connect it to a 9ch JR R921 receiver, I also have an X9503 and with not be using the HC internal gyro. I would like to be able to control the off/hor/pos function using the Aux2 switch and to use the trainer switch for automatic trim. Thanks, FCA

I cant help on that radio Flame....but I think you will have no problem getting someone to chime in. You have the most popular line of radio.for helicommand it seems. Most use the 9303 and although the 9305 is a bit newer i think its pretty much the same.
You should also register at heliguy.com because there is a lot of discussion about HC on that forum |

Hi Split - posted this on heliguy, waiting on for a response
Been trying to setup HC on my Trex 450 Sport using a 9ch JR r921 rx and X9503 tx. I would like to be able to use my AUX2 channel to control the off/hor/pos functions, and the trainer switch for the autotrim function. But first I need to get it set up, can someone walk me thru the complete install, I currently have the following wires connected: from the mixing board to the rx- AILE - First set of 3 wires ELEV - 2nd set of 3 wires RUDD - Single yellow wire Gear - Single yellow wire from external gyro Aux1 - Single Orange wire The green & grey single wires have not been connected as yet. Thanks, FCA

looks like you have the aileron , and elevator right. and you have the orange wire correct which is the collective ( aux 1 on my radio and it looks like yours too)
The green wire is used for hor/off/pos. - on your set up you will land it on which ever switch you decide to control position/off/horizontal The grey wire will trigger auto trim . Because you are using an external gyro you wont hook up the yellow wire. So for both the green wire and the grey wire it will be your choice as to where you will land these. In my radio (dx7) Im using the aux 2 switch to go between off and horizontal mode ( Im not using position mode) I use my gear switch to trigger the auto trim. ( Im using heading hold mode only) So basically you decide what switch you want to use for the funciton of -pos/off/hor and which switch you want to use for auto trim then you assign the switch to that slot on the reciever |

Hi Have you watched the set up videos, I think thats the place to start after you have wired it, available from Heliguy or the capron website. Prefere the capron one myself but watch both. First job on the radio is to set it for 1 servo swash type. Ivor

I am not kidding I have watched the Heliguy video about 50 times, I have the servos moving in the correct direction when i give stick input.
Full throttle - swash is level and moves up Throttle @ 50% - swash is level, servos arms level low throttle - swash is level and moves down When I tilt the helicommand forward swash moves back tile the helicommand back swash moves forward BUT it does not tilt in the opposite direction when I tilt it left or right tilt unit left - swash moves left tilt unit right - swash moves right I do not have any servos reversed, So this is where I have been for the last 21 hours Thanks, FCA

I believe you need to set the unit direction in order for it to have correct swash movement

helicommand
If that worked you will now need to set your stick directions under rc& trim. But I forgot to ask you if the bar directions were correct under the diagnose tab, so check.

You can download a .hcc file for a TRex450 from
http://www.btinternet.com/~anti_a/files/hcc_files/. There are various other helicopters as well. I don't remember whether there is one for a Rigid, but the 3A or 3D will give you the right settings for stick and servo reverse. Select Load and then point it to where you saved the downloaded file. You can then compare your saved file with the new one. Ian |

You do not need to reverse anything in your Tx.
Have a look at my Mixer tab My settings are different. What have you got set on the RC & Trim tab? Heres my RC & Trim tab Did you do CTRL + PRTSC? Ian Last edited by Trooper; 03-12-2010 at 07:26 PM.. Reason: Extra information |

We feel your pain
Flame, you sound like me on post 1 when I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=190803 Splitboarder and went thru this on the phone to capture a screen shot Control + print screen "copies" just like a copy paste function You should see the pointer shudder for an instant, if you don't you may have to include or use the Fn button as it may be needed for the copy function to work Click on the MS button in the task bar on your pc, click on "programs" click on "accessories" click on "paint" Go to the upper left corner of "paint" right under the word edit and left click on the square box..... now right click on the blank page and click "paste" Mel

Mel, I have passed the point of Nervous breakdown, and got more enflamed each time I saw the end of the HeliGuy set up video for 50+ times where he shows the trex flying,
cursing why can't that be me!!! I don't ask for much, All i want to do is fly with helicommand But you guys have kept me sane, Sorry Ivor - I was gonna pack up the heli, radio, and HeliCommand and ship it off to you, But I don't have the heart to put you thru this painful experience, and besides that the unit is damaged. Anyway after a night of despair, turmoil, and the agony of repeatedly being defeated, a small beam of light is starting to penetrate the dark clouds of servos moving the wrong way, and the young, more like old Warrior knows that the battle is not over, but with the Wise Ones looking over him {Mel, NightFlyr, Ian, Ivor} that his journey thru the no mans land of HC setup, will be a victorious one, and sees himself standing on top of the mountain flying his Trex handsfree, with a big smile and thumbs up...ahh that dream just bought a tear to my eye. Ok guys please review my setting and let me know what you think, again the following servos are reversed AILE, ELEV, & PIT And I would like to use the AUX2 switch to control the off/hor/pos modes and trainer switch for the autotrim function but everything is moving in the right direction: Quote:

Hey Flame, quick question after you made me choke on my Scotch...... too Funny
In the mixer tab, is your HC really mounted on the right side? Seems like the left side there would be less chance of HC being impaled by the fly bar? Mel

Hi Mel,
Which part made you choke the "Young / Old Warrior" or standing on top of the mountain. Yes I am planning on mounting the HC unit on the right side of the heli, along the lower part of the frame, and towards the rear by the receiver. Mainly so that I don't damage the side antenna of the R921 Thanks, FCA

Still not sure why you had to reverse servos in your Tx. Maybe thats why your Elev servo shows up + on the Mixer tab. It could be servos 1 & 2 are reversed on the module. If they all work the correct way on the diagnose tab and it levels correctly then it shouldn't be a problem.
Should be no reason not to use the Aux2 to control modes. Go into advance menu and select which switch you want to use. I don't think you can use the Trainer switch as its not programmable, but maybe someone who has your Tx can advise. Ian |

helicommand
Just a few points.Bit late but may help others.
Yes I think the servos are reversed on the module. I have never found it necessary to reverse servos in the transmitter. Copying other people's setups will not work if it is not wired the same. It can be made to work if wired incorrectly but its difficult. If the heli is the type where the swash moves down to increase pitch, aileron and pitch servos should be reversed on the module. If elevator is moving the wrong way when tipping the heli it can be reversed in the software, aileron cannot. Aileron can only be reversed by changing servo directions so aileron should be set up first, then elevator, then stick directions. |
