Mini Protos for dummies
[Getting things in my head together for a first 450 build]
Do I understand correctly that the only things necessary to complete the MSH41504 kit are the servos, the battery and a satellite receiver? Tail rotor blades are not listed explicitly, does it mean that the kit doesn't have them? What does "low head" refer to - rotor head geometry, or possible low head speed? |

Im not sure wich kit that is but .....tail blades are included the origional head was a flybard head so it was taller and had a slot for the seasaw when the sold the fbl head conversion they used the orginal FB head .. later they came out with the LOW head block or FBL specific head block i guessing the kit your looking as is the
Mini fbl with motor esc blades and bran fbl unit ? If so i would recomend geting the program card for a yge esc $28.00 usa and if your an andriod phone or tablet guy the buletooth adapter for your brain fbl unit ... That way you can set up your fbl with out a pc Hope that helps Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |

I second everything he said except I'd suggest getting this card : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ming_Card.html
In place of the 28$ YGE card as it's exactly the same (worked fine with my YGE60 anyway) for alot cheaper.

Another couple of questions -
- Which satellite receiver is a good match for MSH Brain, provided I'm staying with Spektrum for now? - Would MSH Brain work with DX6i? |

One spektrum satellite receiver is fine for the Mini Protos. If your DX6i is DSMX use a DSMX satellite, or use a DSM2 satellite
And the DX6i is perfectly capable for the MSH brain. There is a sticky in the MSH Brain forum how the DX6i can been used for bank switching and self-level |

RPM sensor - mandatory?
Thanks to PxhFlyer for the hint - is RPM sensor a mandatory piece, or you can get away without it? If mandatory, which cable fits better - 90mm or 150mm?

You don't need a RPM sensor at all as the YGE60 in the latest kits has an external phase output.
Check out this thread for how to use it : https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=485879 You only "need" a RPM sensor (or get the phase output from the ESC) if you want to run the MSH Brain governor. Otherwise you can use governor included in the ESC's. I like running governors from FBL systems though as it's easier to configure and easier to change headspeeds, not to mention they are better than the ESC governors (except maybe Kontronik but the pricetag is crazy).

Would I guess correctly that the receiver to use will be the SPM9646 (specifically intended for CF fuselage)? Will SPM9645 work?

Either will work. Just make sure the antenna are not right next to some carbon. I have mounted mine under the main shaft with the antenna sticking out both sides. It's the standard satellite.

It's easier not having to put a long antenna somewhere. The long antenna version is for getting the antenna clear of a full carbon fuse for example. This is a good read for antenna placement : http://www.archeli.com.au/forums/sho...d.php?t=136223

Connecting missing pieces
Next set of first timer questions... Will investigate myself, of course, but all help is appreciated.
Is EC3 connector the only reasonable connector to solder to ESC, or it depends on batteries used? (looking at batteries now, see all sorts of stuff, doesn't make sense yet) The 'gov' connector on MSH Brain doesn't have anything similar on YGE ESC, where is the document that explains what it is and how connect them together? What are those two 3-wire connectors on YGE ESC? Is there any document that explains how to *connect* (not program) this device?

But really your choice should be dictated by what batteries you get. The first lipos I got for my mini were from Hobbyking so I put an XT60 on. For the gov setup with the YGE, I believe it is explained well here : https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=611830 One of the connectors is for governor output, the other one is throttle signal and BEC output. I think the longer one is the throttle signal but I'm not entirely sure. (can't seem to find in which thread I found it)

Still, upon further reading I like EC3 better, wonder how much of a pain in the butt this adapter will be: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...X_Tamiya_.html - more compact than two connectors on a wire, but still, two more failure points. I guess I'll just buy a bag of each and see how easy it is to melt an XT60. Are there any XT60 and EC3 connectors brands to avoid? With those currents, I'd rather spend an extra cent than have them burn down the house.

Also, I personally would stay away from nano-techs, there have been way too many reports of them puffing and generally losing alot of power after a few flights. The normal turnigy are good though, I'd recommend you start out with these : https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...arehouse_.html For the XT60, just get the ones hobbyking sells, they are the geniune ones, as for EC3 I don't know.
