Default Fury Extreme/Tempest with a 60?

Hey all,

I have two questions.

First, is a Fury a good choice for a second heli/first 60 size?

If so, should I put a 61 engine in an Extreme or Tempest, or just buy an Expert? I've heard that buying an Expert and later upgrading is costly.

I'm not ready for the fuel consumption of a 90 just yet. I've just reached the advanced stages of 3D and feel that a 60 still has much to teach me.

YS80 would be a great choice. That is what I would put in an Extreme for my first 60 size bird.

YS 80 is discontinued.
go for the OS 70 and the extreme. There are several flying that do exceptionally well with 680-690MM mains.

Default Gear Ratio

Thanks for the replies!

If I were to go with an OS 70 or maybe a YS ST2 what would the gear ratio be and would I need to modify the extreme in any other way to make it work with the smaller engine?

Aaron,
Yes you would need to set the Extreme up for a different gear ratio to work with the OS 70 in my opinion.
The OS 70 would probably need a 9.3 to 1 gear ratio.
The Extreme comes in two ratios. 8.45 to1 and 8.18 to 1.
8.45 is 93 tooth main gear and 11 tooth pinion
8.18 is 90 tooth main gear and 11 tooth pinion.

For 9.3 you need 93 tooth main and 10 tooth pinion.
You will also need the 115-50 and 115-51 motor mounts.
Also the 9.3 /1 clutch plates.

You can have the shop you buy from special order the kit with the above items. Just tell them to order you an Extreme with 9.3 to 1 gear ratio.

The Heavy Duty clutch now comes in the Extreme. I am not sure you will get the HD clutch if you order the Extreme with 9.3 to 1 gear ratio. I don't think MA puts the HD clutch bell in the Expert. The 9.3 to 1 ratio is used in the Expert and that is parts they would put in the Extreme kit I believe.
