There is a few dealers that have the GY 520. I talked to a couple of people today that have purchased them from dealers. Just got to check around and see what dealers have them.
Tower is owned by Hobbico. And Hobbico imports Futaba into North America. So they allow Tower some of the shipment and ship the rest to hobby dealers that have them on order.

Ya they allocated 2 to each dealer and gave tower more than enough. Kind of stinks that they cant support their brick and mortar stores more.

Interesting. The stores that these GY520's were purchased from got more than 2 of them.
One person purchased two from them and then another person got one. So I know they definitely got at least 3 of the GY 520's

Default Programming

I got mine yesterday.

The programming instructions are a bit incomplete. Errors: On page 12 it says leave the heli still for 5 "minutes" to initialize. Elsewhere it says 5 seconds. 5 secs seemed to be what it took. There's a small addendum sheet to change a "right" to "left" on page 20.

When entering programming mode, the instructions don't really tell you what to do to change the parameters. One long click (held pushed in) enters programming mode. It seems that two short clicks on the switch changed parameters, but I never saw in the instructions where it said to do that. Then a longer click (hold) changed to the next parameter. At the end, after the sixth parameter, it just goes back to step 1. The only way I found to exit programming was to cycle power. The limit setting is a bit confusing at first...but careful reading and I think I have it right.

It's blowing about 35 mph today, so I can't check the hover right now...maybe tomorrow.

I received mine a couple days ago. Installed it on one of my T-rex 500, removed the 401 and stuck on the 520. No adjustments made just used the default settings. No adjustment required to fly. Had a quick hover yesterday morning in 20 mph winds, had to lower the gain down to about 50 on the 10C. Today there is 6 inches of snow on the ground, will this ever stop?

After reading the programming a few more times...it makes sense now. I figured it was me...I just finished a set of midnight shifts and my mental functioning is at a low! I still never saw it explain how to get out of programming mode. Recycling the power worked. I think a spreadsheet type of form that shows the settings, blinks, blink colors, results, etc would be helpful...I'll try to get to it over the next day or two and post it. Today is cold, but not windy, so I should be able to tune it and fly it a bit after things warm up.

Futaba is only recommending (suggesting) S9254, S9257, S9256, BLS254, & BLS 251 in the manual. For any others you'll need to know if they're 1520 or 760 usec to set the gyro properly. I'm using a 9257 which I already had.

Dan

Okay, I'm back from tuning. 40 avcs and 50 normal seems right (TRex SEV2). I'm not good enough to really test it to its limits but it behaves very well.

Also, if anybody knows, can you please tell the difference between 3D mode and F3C mode for a gyro in the setup menus?

from the manual...but it doesn't really explain what F3C is.

"Set the F3C mode when delicate rudder operation is necessary. In the 3D mode, rudder stick operation reacts more sensitively."

Sounds like it's trying for a "scale" like tail response.

You can have a look at this http://www.fai.org/aeromodelling/f3c/synopsis, it explains it.
