Default Behavior in crash

Hello,

Can you please advise how does CP X behave in crash? What are the weakest parts and what shall I be careful of?

I would like to buy it to fly either indoor or outdoors over a concrete small area so I am worried a bit about crash behavior.

Generally speaking, how do you like it, is it a good pick?

By the way, my flight skill are quite high, it would be meant to be a winter Hely.

Thanks, Daniele

It's the most durable heli you can buy. No major weaknesses in regards to breaking. A hard crash can bend a feathering shaft, however it will take a few and it will keep flying. The most fragile part is the body cover. But it will keep flying. A hard crash upside down can make the motor slide, however, it just slides back. I am so glad this was my first CP to learn on. The major lesson for me was other helis can't take a beating like this one, and still perform the way this one does. Hope this helps and good luck with it...

As for its crash resilience, it is probably one of the best CP helicopters out there (IMO). It has basically zero inertia because it weighs only slightly more than a fart. I've post-holed mine into dirt/grass I don't know how many times and I've only ever replaced the canopy and landing skids, and a few sets of main blades in nearly a year with it. I've dumb-thumbed it from an inverted hover into a wood planter box, I've hit trees, walls, lamps, cats (okay the cat attacked it), me... pick it up and keep flying.

I keep a few extra main and tail blade sets around. I've never broken a blade, but they eventually get pretty scratched up. I've never "needed" to replace a tail blade, but I did "because I can"... Add some clear packing tape to the inside (or outside, or both like I did) of the canopy to keep it form shattering (that's IMO the weakest link). Other upgrades IMO are just for bling (which I'm not opposed to!).

I fly mine almost exclusively in my back yard, camping, etc... as the inside of my house is fairly confined (I have other helis that are better suited for indoors in confined spaces). It's got enough power to handle at least a mild breeze.

As for the reliability, I'd have a spare main motor or two on hand, there seem to be enough people around that have issues with the stock motors to warrant having a spare around, though I never personally experienced that. I eventually went with a HH brushless setup and saw some decent improvements.

Great hell (will survive most things that will destroy most other helis).

Stock skids need re-enforcing (easy to break).

If you crash hard, the main board can sometime take a hit (hasn't happened to either of mine). Can protect with some insulation round edges (cut fuel tube).

Check soldering of the battery connection leads (to the board) and the aerial lead connector.

Be careful when inserting or removing servo connectors (lever out of socket with small flathead screwdriver instead of fingers) as socket to board connections are weak.

Feathering shaft bends easily. Can be un-bent, but better when new.
