Talking E7SE: Successful maiden. Motor temperature?

I just came back from my successful maiden flight of my E7SE. Thanks for all your help.
It was already getting dark, so I mostly hovered. The motor seemed to be getting pretty hot. I could put my finger on the can for ~1s after 3.5min flight (forgot my thermometer at home). Is this normal? Castle log shows a hover current of ~25...30A.

My setup:
* HK-4526-520 F3C
* Edge 160HV
* Nano-Tech 6S/5000mA/45C
* 716/106 Rail blades
* 1950 rpm
* TORQ BL9180/9188
* BD3sx

A few years ago I read that hovering and not much of anything else will do that. Times when I just hover, my motor is hot. But another thing is forward flight (other directions too) will provide some airflow for the esc and motor. Congrats on the maiden!

Very nice heli there mate!! Glad to hear your maiden was a successful one. I just maiden flew my E5 today with great results. I like your canopy too!! Looks alot like the Fusuno Taratino canopy I have on my heli.

Thanks!

Congrats on the successful maiden!

Check motor temp after a normal flight may have just been a lack of air flow issue.

I measured the motor temperature after 5min flight to be 80C/170F. According to another pilot (flying a 4525) this is totally normal. It didn't make a difference whether I hovered or did FFF.

I've used 3 dif motors in mine and always run 140-160 depending on outside temps. 700 electrics just run hot

+1. Motors just run hot. Not much that can be done about that. It may be more useful to check ESC temperatures, as you can make adjustments to make ESC's run cooler.
