Default 12 pinion on Synergy E5.

Question? Is it safe to run a 12 tooth pinion on my E5 on 12s power? I am aiming for 2500 with good efficiency without loading up my motor like I am doing now with a 14 tooth on 6S. Don't want to strip out the main gear.

http://heli.dacsa.net/calcv3/Default.aspx looks like you would need a 630kv motor with that pinion. No reason you couldn't.

I am running 12cell on a 14t with a 510kv motor on my E5. No issues so it should work fine for you . I used mr mels hs calc to figure out motor kv and pinion knowing i wanted 2300ish for hs.

Motor will be a Scorp 4025 550 version. Reason I was asking is my Quantum on 6S and my Ice 120 come down hot after 3:50 flight times at 2500. Was thinking that a 14T pinion was over gearing it since I have it at 82% throttle. Would like to try a lower HS in Idle 1 but it seems to really heat things up more.

Did you double check your esc settings? Wrong timing or pwm will heat up your system. On scorpion recommending timing, etc my motor and esc come down warm to the touch, but not hot. I can hold my hand on them.

I run the 4025-550 with 14t on mine. At 100% governor on a CC120 you will get 2404 rpm. I like it flies great for me.

Probably should check that out again. Set at normal timing and 12 khz. Should I switch to low timing?

I run a few 4025 scorpions. I ran my 4025-550 at 8khz and 5 deg timing. I also ran 12t with no gov for awesome performance. I started with my e5 running 12s with 14t pinion governed but everything got too hot so I swapped in a 12 tooth and disabled the gov.

Thanks for all the help guys! Works good at low timing and 8 khz. Heat is much better. Will be changing over to a 12s setup though. Quantum 560 4025 on sale at Helidirect. Great price. Would a set of 2600 6s Pulse/Revel extra be a good size?

When I ran 12s in my e5, I ran 12s 2600. It was still over 9 lbs though

The 4135 from Quantum is a much stronger motor on 12s.

I am running my E5s on 12s with 620 mains a 12 tooth pinion and the scorpion 4035-530kv with the Kontronik Jive HV and zero issues . I am using the hard coat pinion though and all has been working well with the gears looking perfect still. I have just over 100 flights on it presently .

Quantum 560 and 2500hs goal. I think 2200-2300 is more in line with motor kv and 12t.

Use MrMel hs calculator to find the right pinion for 2500 hs.

Depends on if you want to use the governor or not . 560 on 12 tooth at 100% is 2660 and 2450 at mid pack on Mel's . I like a gov so I would be gearing up if I wanted that high of a headspeed .

And this why the "Synergy" family is the best! Thanks for all the advice. Settling on the a 13 tooth pinion with the 560 Quantum motor. Should be able to hit my target with no problem with better efficiency.

Quantum 4125 560KV just arrived in the mail. Just have to install it. Next have to select a good set of lightweight lipos to run. Was thinking about Pulse 2600's but they are quite heavy at 453 grams each. Might try a set of TP 2600's or Glacier 2600's.

Pretty excited about this weekend. Finally got the E5 all set-up for 12S power. Finished wiring tonight and going through final checks. As far as lipos I am using a set of Glacier 2600 30C 6S packs in series. I really like them because they are so light. All together with everything up on the weight scale I am coming in at around 8.18 pounds which is really good. As far as head speed I will be sticking with my normal routine of 2500 on a 14T pinion which is what I am used to flying with. What I did notice is that when I used to fly the model as a 6S type, my ESC and battery would always come down very hot. Plus it seemed like the motor was kind of struggling to move the model around. Well anyways, cant wait for this Saturday!!

Very interesting. My 12s e5 was over 9 pounds RTF (also running 12s 2600). Even on 6s I am around 8 1/2 pounds with a 6s 5000. Does anyone know the average AUW of a 12s e5 (no stretch)? Mine runs pretty well on 6s at 2500. It flies a little heavy compared to my other 550s, but not bad enough I would change it back to 12s or feel it is lacking from the extra weight. On 12s, yours should be a real monster, especially with the lower overall weight than my 6s e5. Did you do anything to save weight or am I just flying a pig?
