Default Broken Motor Shaft!

Anyone had this happen to them? Happened mid flight. Auto'd it down ok.
5.5 Stretched with 11T pinion. 1100kv second gen motor.
Motor isnt that old, just a few month. My old motor got smashed for years and its still fine.

It looks like the shaft can be removed (it has grub screws)
Anyone know how to get a shaft only? Dont need the can as its fine.

Yup. Happened to me in the fall. It was a 4025 on my stretch Atom. I was able to land it ok. My motor was old, maybe your mess was too tight. Any strange wearing on the gears?

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a 1 ton arbor press. It's cheaper than a new motor. Replace the bearings while your in there. I used a little green loctite on the shaft where it goes into the bell, this may be unnecessary.
I used a 20% off coupon.

Have the same one for small projects. Works fine.

Might want to call ProStar and see if they carry that shaft. I was able to find a scorpion shaft that was "close enough". It's a little bit longer but no big deal.

are you able to help a pilot out and let me know where you got the shaft? Doing the work isnt much the issue, finding a replacement shaft is!

Default Broken Motor Shaft!

Mine is a 1-off motor. Unfortunately not the same. I measured the broken shaft for diameter and length then found a Scorpion replacement that was a tad longer than the one I broke.
You could probably use a 6 mm shaft, I think the 6HV pinions are 6mm.

Default Broken Motor Shaft!

So far, this is the best I could find.

The shaft is 6mm, with a 5 mm output. I'll keep looking, but it might be the best option. Look at the bright side, you don't have to buy a $40 arbor press!

This motor kicks butt if you have an ESC big enough.

But if you want crazy power you could drop this in. I have a 4025 in mine and it's bananas!

Sorry man, didn't know you were a Kiwi! Just realized you are a world away. Sucks, but I think you might just need to replace the bell/shaft combo.

Sent using Otto correct.

I talked to Klaus at the Cincy Smackdown and he confirmed that you can not buy the motor shaft separately. He did however suggest getting ahold of a machine shop supply company and buy drill blanks in a diameter that is very similar to the the motor shaft. Maybe even buy a few different sizes to ensure a tight fit. It might be too late, but I thought of you when I was talking to the Compass guys. You might have to use a pinion from a 6HV or something, but it sure beats having to buy the entire motor bell.

Here's a motor suggestion. It has insane power and its designed for 600 helis, so strech atom has huge power reserve with this. I run it with HW 100a pro v3 and both motor and esc come down cool. The only thing you have to to is sanding down the shaft 1mm 6>5mm and you're set. I have a 10tooth pinion and 515 mm Rotortech blades and full 14° and full -14° is piece of cake with this motor.
