Xxtreme ESC
The heat sink doesn't make contact with the fets. Should I use some thermal paste?

Don't remember the exact reason but I think it is that way by design. I would say no real need to do it it as even on some very warm days the ESC runs relatively cool.

We have tried it both ways. As the unit comes from Mikado, and also we've taken the heat sink off, and dabbed a little thermal paste on each FET, and reassembled. No issue with doing that.
In the end, it doesn't really seem to make much difference. We fly where it gets really warm (central California), and either way, the ESC seems to handle the heat OK. FWIW, we have tested the YGE 160 without the heat sink even installed on the Logo 700 in very hot weather conditions (trying to find where the limit is), we've had no issues with the ESC running too hot. Its by design,
It's connected where the water model is connected when having water cooling. Suck heat out, but generate none back is the idea. |
