Hirobo Shuttle Plus 2 locknuts
Hi, I'm new here. I am building a Hirobo Shuttle Plus 2 from a kit, and some of the parts use nylon locknuts. Can these locknuts be reused a few times? I ask this question because part of the tail rotor came partially assembled. I took it apart to make sure the tail rotor thrust bearings were greased, and this required removal of the M3 locknuts keeping the thrust bearings in place. I'm wondering if I should replace the locknuts. Thanks.

Thanks Ron, it's helpful to know that the locknuts can be reused. But should they only be reused several times? I'm thinking about the long term maintenance of this heli. If for some reason I need to replace them can I just use ones from any hardware store?
I am really looking forward to flying this heli. I have been flying a 450 electric, but I always wanted a Shuttle. When I was a kid I saw people flying them and I thought they were so cool. |

I'd say for the price of them, if you have any doubt at all replace the nuts with new ones.
I'm a bit of a fuss pot on this kind of thing myself and figure $5.00 for a bag of 6-32, 8-32 or 4-40 nylon lock nuts is better than $800.00 for a new helicopter any day. If you ask at the local hardware. You can buy them in 100 lots much cheaper than 4 in a bag at the LHS. When it comes to servicing your helicopter. Watch this video.
You can make a bearing cleaner in 5 minutes out of a small baby food bottle a 3" 8 machine screw and 8-32 nuts and washers. Use a small amount of diesel fuel or Varsol as a degreaser and dry the bearing on a paper towel. Rather than using grease in my small bearings, I have been using 7.000 weight silicone differential fluid. On larger bearings I use 50,000 weight.
When building a new or servicing a used helicopter. Always take your bearing covers off, clean and use a high quality grease in your bearings before installing them in your helicopter! If you have bearings with pressed in seals, discard them. Look on the side of the outer race for a number like 2x5x2.3 this is the size and buy serviceable bearing with removable covers at the LHS or on line. Size: 2mm x 5mm x 2.3mm Inner Diameter: 2mm Outer Diameter: 5mm Width: 2.3mm http://www.bearingscanada.com/servle...ngs/Categories Always, remove the seals, clean in de-greaser dry and grease them properly before you install them. I don't know how many times I have popped the top off a brand new bearing and found it dry or minimal grease. If you take the time to service your bearings before installing them you will never have bearing problems and you will not have to take the helicopter apart. Dave at RC Heli does a series of videos. Check them out. This is a great video as well, Keep it in mind when building our shuttle! It makes a difference.
hope this helps you.
