Default Setting throttle range?

Im doing some work on a mini p for a friend of mine and it has an issue I think is related to the esc throttle range. First the setup; AR7200BX, msh esc, dx6i, msh motor

If I plug it in and push collective all the way down, thee esc won't initialize. I have to flip to throttle hold, then the esc will initialize but continues to beep. If I flip off throttle hold, the motor coughs and stutters at about 10% power, but will spool up normally from there.

I thought that initializing the heli with the throttle maxed would kick the esc into programming mode, however it never gives me the programming beeps.

Any tips?

This exacerbates the issue. Setting +10% for throttle hold makes it so that the monitor screen doesn't move. Setting zero for throttle hold the heli spools to 10%, and setting -10% causes the heli to spool to 20% when throttle hold is disengaged
