Sutty, G10 is a better choice. I steer away from carbon fiber a lot on frames because it offers not true HUGE benefit over the other options, meanwhile it's double, if not triple in price!
G10 is really solid. Light weight compared to plastic, glassfiber and other materials, isn't prone to causing interference issues like carbon fiber and it's ridiculously cheap and just as strong as carbon fiber, and in most cases, looks like carbon fiber. Besides, let's face it, no matter what you have, steel, plastic, glass, carbon or any other fibers, when you wreck hard enough to destory a set of frame sides, your screwed no matter what. Opt for the cheaper solutions, don't worry about weight, unless your a pro squeezing out every bit of power to get through those CRAZY Tareq style maneuvers, you'll never notice the minor difference between frame sides materials. Denis, the needle valve is that big silver "thumb" screw sticking out of the carb. The mixture screw is that tiny flat-head screw that has the copper/brass plate between an opening. Turning this 80-90 degrees in either direction will cause that brass/copper plate to slide right or left, ultimately changes the mixture from lean to rich. Needle valve is mid-to-high RPM range, mixture screw is idle-to-mid RPM range. Jerry gave good advice at setting up the throttle, you'll read and discover many other ways too go about it as well. Myself, I set my throttle stick to low position, trim centered, set my carb body arm so that it's centered from fully closed to the mid indication and then open the throttle fully with the stick until the servo binds, the back off and eliminate any travel from there with the travel adjust. Right now it's setup perfectly so fully closed throttle stick idles, and fully open stick is fully open throttle. 100% travel both directions. Then I use trim to close the carb completely or adjust the idle position for varied weather conditions. My suggestion for you the first time starting is close that carb barrel as much as you can until you find that sweet spot that it wants to fire. Don't just set it to a position and start as it could be to high and you'll have a hot start. If that ever happens, hold the head when starting and a foot on that skids. quickly just pinch the gas or hit the engine cut on your TX. You'll always over-power the heli, it will just give you a HUGE adrenaline rush. =P Jonny lives in your region so he can better tell you the sweet-area for the throttle barrels idle. For me it's pretty open. |

Cheers Buddy, hope your ok. Was wondering were you had been the last few days. Anyway, I'm not asking, just hope things are working out for you. Today my stance on the ex is a leopard cannot change it's spots...if that makes any sense!! I'm frustrated with making an effort and getting nothing back in return
Been working 14hr days again, but tomorrow and Friday only half days, so I should get it sorted 2m. I may finish at a reasonable time today weather dependent, so may have time later. Doubt I'll have the energy though as I'm grouting some steps, so I'll be doing a wax on, wax off action for 5-6hrs solid!! I'll be asking Gaz if he can check it over before I fire her up, but the whole point of taking my time over this re-build is to try and learn as much about it for myself. Anyway.....hi-ho, hi-ho etc. Speak to you soon. Ps. Sutty I think I'll be excited when it's ready, nervous when I fire it up, and extactic once I've done my first flight. I'm considering travelling to Lincoln at end of the month for this world record attempt for the most RC heli's in a hover at one time. Anyone else interested?

Cheers mate!
I'm actually doing surprisingly well considering the drama, head games, pain and finical position I've been left to deal with. I've recently made some really great friends with good head on their shoulders (far and few in between around here). We all recently went zip lining over the Grand Falls gorge (wow, an experience!). Lot's of great plans a head, including a camping trip (actually have been invited by two groups on the same date so awkward position). Feeling ten feet tall and bullet proof with my new job I went car shopping few days ago and took a few fancy cars for a spin. All I need too do is sign the dotted line and I got that fancy 2010 Camero out in the drive way (debating it but it's been a fun toy to have for the past few days). Best of all, I have my son 60% of the time! Ironically, me being out, making friends, having Jaime and cruising around in a sports car has caused her to have a lot of "sudden" regret and even lash out at me with stupid comments. Asking how many women have hit on me and this and that. Very immature and petite person. Despite it all, we are a family and need to sort things out, at least try. So we're gonna have family time tonight and through out the next week or so and see how things go. Truthfully Denis, that saying holds a lot of truth! People can change, but sometimes particular "hang ups" in a persons personality is something that can never change unless the person actually dedicated a lot of effort and time to changing. I've come to the same conclusion as she has shown no return either as I'm all give. Hustle on that bird every opportunity you have Denis, you'll find it'll wash away it all. Wouldn't say it's cheaper then drugs but hey, it's a hell of a lot more fun. |

Which bird are you talking about hustling? The 600 or Avant girl no.2? Reading that back I'll keep on hustling both I'm happy enough staying single for a while and getting my head down with work. At least I've got my chopper to play with!!!
Gaz, I'll catch up with you in the next day or two. Always wanted to be a record breaker

Guys, the woman must admire her partner for the relationship to thrive, that's how much I learned from my first marriage. You do your checklist of what reasons exactly she's admiring you for, that depends on the woman. If you can keep on feeding and building on those, then you have a good shot of working differences out, they actually don't mater all that much. If what she had admired you for in the past (because she had, that's a given) is no longer valid for you, or seems stupid, or superficial, or for whatever reason is otherwise not sustainable, it comes out cheaper long term to cut your losses and ditch her now. Cheaper in all aspects of life: financial, emotional, and even in terms of wear and tear on your physical health...

Jerry, your advice is absolutly spot on. Lets say its easy enough to get a woman to be attracted to you. It's keeping that going over the long term that is the tricky bit.
Thats where I failed without realising it at the time. Mainly due to being so consumed with other things going on in my life : Career changes, Financial strain, Being to doped up to give much of a damn. Rest assured I will never make those same mistakes again. So....back to the re-build!!!! Managed to have a go at setting up the throttle servo, but had to rush a bit and don't think I've got it right first time. Gonna have another go now, and fly the mCPx in the garden, been getting pretty close to getting it inverted now. Beautiful evening for flying here, so gotta get out and fly

Have you sprung for DX8 in the end? If yes, I could pass you my settings for both 600Ns, those could serve a a decent starting point...

Ok, think thats the throttle sorted now onto the gyro
Edit : Sorry Jerry, hadn't updated screen since last post!! I've decided that when I can afford it, I would go for the DX8. For now I'm gonna fly it with the DX6i with the gov in manual mode, and see how I get on for starters. Edit Again : Was thinking of the new DX7s, but I have kinda sided with the arguments that for the money you may aswell go for the telem unit too. Muhaha!! I'll send my apologies for the next meeting.

Ok, enough of this busines.
Jerry, as the saying goes, takes one to know one. Been there done that, have the scarse still! Well said. Mike, EVERYTHING in moderation. CB, for some damn reason or another, I'm not worried with you, You're going to be fine. Also, don't go for the whissels and bells of the new series. Here's the rule, as far as Spectrum is concerned. Beyond DX-7 everything is a new way of doing business, and because it's new, it has some issues, give anything you buy control wise, time to prove itself. Super big problem, 2048 doesn't work worth a sh*t on fbl systems of any sort. This new crap reallyu has to not only work out all the bugs, but prove itself bullet proof before going on your system. If you do not subscribe to that attitude then you must be willing to understand the risks. Jerry, as soon as you rev up for take off, the vibes go wild. I could be wrong, but I would be chasing what would cause a cyclic pitch, as making the tail dive up and down. Just a guess. As for me, think I'll go fly the 450 tomorrow, see how this new version for the sk720 works out. Guys, I'm serious, It's worth every pernny!

I think in the big scheme of things Tom, it will be a while before I treat myself to a new tx. By christmas at the earliest. Like anything, I'll base my decision on the best available at the time. I wasn't aware of big problems with the DX8, as I haven't been following any threads on it!! So will make sure I do some homework before I make any final decision.
As you probably guessed, no 600 progress, still reading through the spartan gyro manual ready to setup the tail. Been doing some tweaks to the 450 that I've been planning for a while, and I'm glad I've done it. Installed the Align CF blades now and did a couple of packs in the garden yesterday to get the blades tracking. These blades needed 2 stickers on one side to balance out, and I've never had a pair that bad before, but they track sweet now anyway!! I've also reduced my pitch range to -10/+10, I think the scorp-8 and 13t pinion provide plenty of HS, so I just wanted to soften it a little. As a result I think punches on the pitch control put a little less load on the blades/motor/batteries, but I've still got a good enough headspeed to keep it beating the air about and it's responsive enough for me. I've got to say I really like how its flying now, feels dialled and locked, and I'm getting used to the responsiveness. Excited about the prospect of taking it down the field again. Sutty, other than today, hopefully it will just be more showers so there will be the occasional opportunity Yesterday, I stopped flying after 2 mins, went inside to avoid the rain, then went back out 10mins later to finish the pack off Given the cost of FP nano's I'd rather get 3-4 of those than 2 of anything else. We'll see - I've now got about 5-6 weeks work booked in, and there is another job in the pipeline with no confirmed start date too, so by the end of Aug, I'll definately treat myself to something.

Just a quick update, have got 7 of the 14 things done on my checklist now...including getting the canopy holes drilled out for the RC Booya Canopy grommets.
Almost there!! Slacked off work for an hour at lunchtime to take the 450 out. I really tried to push it on the 3rd pack and luckily managed to walk away with the heli still intact. The first pack was smooth again cause of the lowerheadspeed...lots of nose in practice and CW/CCW circuits, 8's, now concentrating on trying to keep the same altitude/speed. 2nd pack started rolling tighter and flipping almost on the spot, fwd and bkwds, to the left and right!! So by this time everything had gone better than I hoped, and I thought for the 3rd pack just go for it, so I did. I started by taking off nose-in, going up to about 20 ft and then into a front-flip, and then a back flip. Went on like that for about 1 min, with some inverted hovering throw in for good measure. Wasn't long then before I had brown trouser moment, quickly followed by another one. But I managed to correct and save, so I calmed down for a minute, and then thought I'd give some tic-toks another try. Managed 1 on the first 2 attempts, and then 3 on the 3rd attempt. Not aswell as I wished for, but I was still a little shaky from the earlier antics. Finished the pack off by doing some inverted punchouts with a piro thrown in, and then a nice flared nose-in landing. I tried to record it, but all you have is my words. I forgot my memory chip was in the USB adaptor at home, so I pushed the button but there was not enough memory to save it to the phone!!

Awesome stuff Denis, wish you had gotten it, since Tom has been TOTALLY slacking off with these leg excuses (lsorry buddy just screwing with ya' lol, felt I needed to throw a jab). Jeez everyone is passing me in flight skills now, I need to smarten up, order some proper blades odds and ends and fly.
They both look sexy! Hope you don't fly with those canopies, they are far to nice to risk in a crash (learned that one the hard way every time on the first pack!). I'm now just reminded how big the 600 is next to the ol' 450... Somehow quickly always forget about that. |

All cool, Mike, and all too true. I too, have really slacked off the flying. Been messing around a little bit with the 450 but absolutely nothing that would ever mean more than a guaranteed return as uneven ground is still a no-no. Shame on that too, as the weather has been the best, We aren't suffering from the heat, either!
Bad news, crappy year. Good news, getting better every day now. Shant be long now.

Yeah Mike, I've totally neglected the 450 this year, so I thought it was time to brush up my skills before the 600 is finished. Don't want to be dumb thumbin thattoo soon!!
Anyway, been out with the 450 again today, so it's back home now to crack on with this for a while

Almost there!!
Got the fuel lines to do from the fuelling cap to pump later, so I'm just wondering about a few things. Hope I've got it right anyway, but please let me know if there is anything I missed. 1. The fuel cap that you screw on the bottle has 2 nipples. I guess one is to allow air in, and the other is to attach the fuel line to the pump? 2. The pump also has 2 nipples, I assume the pump will be bi-directional so it can both fill and empty the fuel tank, so it doesn't really matter which one I choose as the normal inlet/outlet. Cheers

I assume you are talking about the refueling pump, in which case, yes, you have it right.
Just remember, you must vent your tank or you will over pressurize it while refilling.

Correct, just pop open that deflector plug and the muffler pressure fuel line when refueling/fueling the heli, and all is good to go! Clamp off the engine thought!

Good luck with it CB! Get her started!
What I really love about nitro, the noise, the smoke, and especially, the sound like if you don't pay strict attention to what you are doing it's going to rip you a new one! Nothing says "don't f**k with me like a nitro heli.
