For info, just building one of the newer kits (with 80A ESC) and the motor now has the flat spot already ground into the motor shaft.
So they've taken that tip onboard too.

Speed controller comes with a programming card too.

Hi Bob, i have just ordered my Protos too, but was wondering why you put the gyro underneth the boom and not on top, or under the mainshaft along with the reciever. This would give the gyro protection from a boom strike and perfect vertical alignment with the main shaft.

Search for a very old thread in the Trex450 forum Gyro on top = bad.

You will see why it is not a good idea to put the gyro on top on smaller helis. In a crash the flybar tends to wrap arounf the head and then strikes the gyro destroying it!

Here is my 401 after a crash when I had it on top

Hi RoadRune, i think you have mis-understood my question, i was asking if the gyro can go under the mainshaft, not the tail boom. Where bob has put the Gyro, there is a place on top of the boom too, but i wanted to know if it is a good idea to place it where the reciver is too.

Usually gyros say to have a X amount of distance from the servos and RX. If you can achieve that under the boom then try it!

Hi Bob, i have just read the thread you mentioned about the gyro on top =bad, and a good point was made that adjusting the gyro would be impossible if you were able to get the reciever plus the gyro under the mainshaft. So needless to say i will be putting it under the boom just like you have, thanks again and keep up the good work, i always check to see what your building to see where my next heli may come from.

Apache,

Go to post #18 of this thread: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=107983

A guy got the RX and the Gyro in the cavity under the main shaft. Looks good too.

I have noticed a bad wobble on my newly built protos, it is the swash that is doing it and have seen a video from ecafinator on youtube showing exactly the same as mine.

Wobbly swash plate... (0 min 43 sec)

I did spool the machine up but when i put a right aileron movement in it also pitches backwards onto the tail, my head geometry is as per the manual with all links checked for length and setup with +/- 12 degrees. Servos are Hitec HS5245MG.

Help.

Swigsy,

Could be one of three things:

- Bad swash

- Bent Main shaft

- Bearing Blocks not aligned (unlikely)

I would start with the bad swash....

I think the swashes aren't made 100% round. Mine also wiggles.
I asked my vendor and sent an email to msh. Not much become of it.
I figured id run it and see what happens.

Hard to see in the video as it was shot by hand (hard to see with the camera moving) so i can assume it is moving like mine is. I recall it is about 1-1.5mm off center.

Nice kit , very impressed with it and having corrado on the forums is a big plus also. I hope this continues with his product line expanding.

The swash is nice but the off center issue has been brought up before , not sure why it hasn't been addressed all that much. Mine is the older type with the shouldered balls that press into the swash as part of a 'locking' system. I didn't break any of them off as others had. They've been now change to the the fully threaded balls using locktite to fix into place.

Finless I built my protos during the time you were also building yours and think I maidened a week after yours. During that time you mentioned you had the paddle weights in, some expo on cyclic and lower than usual swash settings. Over time I have changed my setting and gradually dialled back some of that expo and added head speed, I have also increased swash mix to get more pitch without it binding. I still have the weights in.

So my question is have you changed yours about since the build and how do you have it setup at present.

Also have you tried crashing it yet ??? I have had one since build and it was a mechanical failure caused crash (one of the links came loose after a very fast forward flip, my fault I knew it was loose but did nothing about it).

I have not changed anything myself. As you know I was already running max head speed already. This heli is quick enough for my on cyclic already so I am sticking with what I have setup now.

Bob, would these need to be cut down, or did they modify after your findings of the KBDD blades on Protos?

They need to be cut down for the Protos in my opinion.

Finless, I'm not sure if this has been asked, but here you go. With the new carbon frames coming out for the Protos soon. Would you be willing to doing an additional video of the best way to switch out these frames and another fight review?
