I remember reading a post last summer about a guy that was asking about the Align parts shortage.

Turns out his LHS gave him some story about a big shortage and he believed it even though there were 100s of retailers with parts in-stock and still coming in

LHS are sometimes worse than the forums

I would imagine there is a difference between package sku numbers being discontinued and the radio itself. When they put the new DSMX modules in them(not to mention repackaging servos or receivers), the actual sku of the radio itself will change. I would also guess some of the silk screen graphics on it will change on the face plate at the least as well, like where it says DSM2. Being the way we hobby guys are, they would do well to change the 'paint job' on it and some of us will buy the exact same thing again just because of that.

Some of the SKU's are probably gone, and LHS's are seeing 'discontinued' when trying to order older setups.

Being cross-compatible, I am sure a lot of the receivers are going to be renamed/reworked.

I doubt they will keep the exact older radio and start packaging an envelope with it to immediately send it out to be upgraded.

According to this only the versions of the DX7 that are discontinued are the ones that come with JR DS285 servos and the DX7SE mode 1. You'll still be able to get the radio by itself and the package with the Spektrum branded DS821 servos and the AR7000.
This is the place I saw on the Spektrum site. I have to call Horizon today anyway so I will ask.

Who cares if it's continued. Its a great radio and once you have one your done. And they will continue to service them no doubt. I just wonder what they will fill the gap in with? The DX6i is so low end and the DX8 high end.

Seriously guys, I said it before I'll say it again, just because they stop selling it they are not gonna stop servicing and supporting it.

I told my wife that it was a good thing she let me pick up the DX7 instead of a lesser unit because the DX7 "replacement" is $1100. Logic will prevail.

Ya, when I went to my LHS. His HH rep told him that it will be discontinued also and replaced with something else. Now when I went to E-Fest. Brian Reed told me they had no plans to discontinue it and that is a riduclous rumor. It seems as though info coming from Horizon is not balancing out. I for one really dont care if it is discontinued or not. I have one. I like it. I'll keep it.

Spektrum is actually going out of business because no one buys there stuff, they are so pissed about it that they have put in a software "self-destruct" on all of their upgrades for the last month, if you have upgraded, your transmitter will die in 1 week from yesterday. Honestly.

Yeah I get the point guys, calm down. Nobody said anything about immediately switching to the new radio the second it comes out or that there will be a lack of support for the old radio that is actually a nuke that will explode on December 2012, just that there was disappointment over getting the older one not long before. All of this based on a rumor and nothing more.

Think of how many DX8's they sold by now. Sure some early hundreds needed sending in.. not surprising... but I haven't heard of any issues for at least 2 months now (actually causing a crash etc) so I think it's pretty solid now. They probably outsell the others brands 10 to 1... so I think Spektrum is doing fine.

This will be a bad news. The DX7 &SE are both best looking TX in Spektrum.

Other spektrum TXs just look suck!
