What would you do?
Ok so I have a Protos 500 that I am building up ( low head , carbon , no stretch ). It will have an AR7200BX, an Align DS650 tail servo and 3 Align cyclic servos. I have a MSH motor ( the original Lipotech one)and I also have an MSH Lipotech 80 A ESC (with PRO CARD). So now I am thinking that perhaps I would want a more " modern" ESC like a HobbyKing
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...w_5A_SBEC.html . Assume I am just a sport flyer and my 3 D is limited to 2D :-) What would you do??

The Lipotech ESC is renowned for having issues below 85% or 95% throttle - so you need to get your pinion choice etc. spot on. I would not use the Lipotech personally,
I would go for a YEP personally, that's what I use on my Protii |

I also have a "spare" Hobbyking YEP 100A w. SBEC laying around, I guess that will be the one to use for this job. It's big ( I have another Protos with that 100A unit flying) so it will need to be put in the bottom tray but.. it will be cooler there too.. which is good..

Back in the good old days before 3axis gyro's, we had rudder gyro.
Then you needed only "one" special high speed servo. Plus, 3 cheap slow servos for cyclic. Known as "cyclic servos". Not just because that's where it's used, but don't forget "slow/cheap". Now, that we have 3axis gyro's, there is no such thing as a "cyclic servos" for FBL. What do you think is giving input to the cyclic elevator/aileron input? Yup, the gyro. You want to put slow/cheap cyclic servo's there? You better buy 4x rudder servo. Not just with high speed, but a good amount of torque. Especially, for DFC. Ever wonder why so many FBL pilots go from Align 3G > BeastX > Vbar? Hmmm.... |

Harry,
Have you tried the Low head / non-stretch layout??? The manual predicts a bad result, but a number of peple say that they run it - I would refer that personally but just not heard about enough people doing it for an extended period to feel comfortable doing it. Cheers, Mike |

Go for lightest esc maybe? The old yge likely is lighter than the others, so if the bec is rated enough I'd go with that for a light build. My protos has a 100A HW on the bottom, but with 20A sbec and kst servos, it ain't a light build!
