Throttle and pitch curves questions
Hi All, Pretty much finished the setup of my stock Hurri 550. Have 2x 3000mAh Turnigy packs setup for it. Ball links are a little tight but I'll see if a few flights loosen them up. The Ino-Lab digital servos seem to push everything alright though. Am running the 850Kv motor and stock 50A esc with a 1000mAh 2s pack driving an 8A BEC.
Wanted some feedback on the curves I'm running. I've only ever flown 450s mildly and squirelly forward flight, no 3D and only ever had it in idle up a couple of times for maybe 20 seconds a time. My previous main bird is a trex clone which I used to run a fairly under powered beltCP motor in. It suited me fine as it was very docile. I recently put a new Turnigy 2215 motor in it and swapped the RCE-600 HH gyro for a rate gyro the thing is now too balistic for me to fly comfortably. I'm hoping the 550 will be more docile than the screaming 450. Anyway here are my curves, bear in mind 99% of my flying is currently done in normal: Normal: TC: 0 85 90 95 100 PC: 30 60 70 80 100 Idle Up TC: 100 100 90 100 100 PC: 0 25 50 75 100 They are basically the same curves I ran on the 450 when it had the docile motor in it and worked well for me. See any issues with these curves for the 550? Many thanks.

Hey Flaming
You need to see how the bird flies. Do you have pitch guage? You Need to check how many degrees negative you are getting. You don't need more than -2 the heli is heavy. My lowest pitch curve on the 550 is 44; and the heli would drop from the sky real fast with that throttle curve. The guys here will tell you taht you need to find you own pitch settings which is correct. I have used 44-48-50-75-100, I am now at 44- 51-53-75-100 in normal mode. I have a sligh feeling with that pitch curve and 0-80 throttle you'll be stripping your gears. My throttle curve is 0-45-80-80-85(stock set up) I think your belt CP something is wrong wrong it. Type Phildevu in youtube search and you'll see the stock 550 with those settings and a belt upgraded going high speed with stock ESKY 3800 motor. Cheers |

Hey thanks PhillyD,
The pitch gauge reads 0 mid stick at idle up +10.5 to -10.5 deg. I might use your curves as a starting point and go from there. I did spool up the motor last night and having the TC go from 0 to 85 did mean that only the most minute throttle up movement brought up the HS very quickly. I always thought it was best to maintain a high HS, hence the quick ramp up from 0 to 85 on throttle.

Ye flaming
Maintain high head speed over mid stick. At that TC it would be close to landing in stunt mode. |

as long as you have a good soft start... then the TC you have works fine... once you get a little more comfortable with flying, use stunt mode to fly the entire flight... including landing...
and Philly is right, -2 on the low end is more than enough to land this heli... fiond a normal TC and PC that works for you..that will make flying more enjoyable... btw my normal TC is 0-INH-85-INH-100 and my normal PC is 50-50-50-50-50 for a flat 0* of pitch.. it makes it impossible for me to fly in normal mode.. my normal flight involves turning on radio.. enable TH... flip to IU1 (stunt 1) connect battery... take off TH and let my soft start do it's thing... fly till timer goers off... land...hit TH.. disconnect battery... turn off radio |

bro your pitch curve in normal needs to be changed...somewhere round 40,45,50,75,100. so when you switch into idle up your stick, throttle and pitch settings match...

Flaming,
You're getting lots of different answers now I started with a similar TC and PC as you for normal - you will hover at about half stick if that is what you want - as Mystic says the Gaui ESC has a really nice soft start so you will be fine with that TC. However your Idle up curves are not so good - firstly they do not match the Normal curves so when you switch from Normal to Idle up you will get a big change in pitch. When you want to move to flying in Idle up then you want a TC similar to TC Normal 0, 90, 90, 90, 100 Idle up 100, 90, 90, 90, 100 PC Normal 40, 45, 50, 75, 100 Idle up 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 This way when you fly in Normal or Idle up it will feel exactly the same above half stick - like MM I do not fly in Normal but take off, fly and land in Idle up Good luck, Mike. |
