I flew it last night - and damn it is quick!! I LIKE IT!!

I have a questiuon for anyone who has flown it in Real Flight - how close does it fly to the real thing?

Is this really how the Protos flys??

I have a model of TRex 500 from expansion pack 5 and it pirouetes much faster. The Protos is pretty slow on that front.

Why is that?

It's just a question of how you set it up! Just have a look at the wheight and the performance!

Same answere here, it's just a question of how you set it up! I tried to create a set-up which is "fly-able" for better beginners with dual-rate and a nice set-up for better pilots. Someone who knows what set-up he needs, will use his own settings! By the way, have you used dual-rate?

Its not too far off. I made the following adjustments to make it feel quite close to the way mine feels in the air.

Gyro

Rate gain 30%
Heading hold gain 40%

Main rotor paddles

Mixing ratio 60%
Paddle weight 8G

Just saw a post by Corrado on RR - about another new Real Flight Protos model just becoming available on the Knife Edge Swap pages.

I found it:

http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/down...o=file&id=8276

but damn if it isn't also made for G4. Someone interested in converting this one to 3.5 also? I googled a bunch - and I can't seem to figure out how to do that. How do you do that?

Yeah, that is way out there, LOL! I used to have AFPD and learned orientation from it, but have to tell you that physics is way off. A protos model would be just for looks and not even feel like a real one. When I went to G3.5, helis started feeling more real in most maneuvers, and there are those that say Phoenix's physics are even better than RealFlight, but I haven
t tried that one.

Not sure, but it may be best if only the original creator converts it. At least, I think you need some of the tools and stuff sim model makers use in order to make appropriate changes. Not sure.... would like that one in 3.5 too.

For a G3 version, just go back a few pages, posting 33 -> https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=33
It's already done

Actually Klaus - there is another one up on Knife Edge's swap pages now. I was hoping to fly it also. Corrado announced it on RR. I posted the URL here, a couple of posts up - but when I just went to use it, to verifiy the URL before posting it again here in this post, it did not work.

Here is the new URL - but if it breaks again - the new Protos is right there on the first page in the G4 Aircraft section. It was built by maxx2504:

http://knifeedge.com/forums/download...o=file&id=8291

I would like to fly it on 3.5! I looked all over the Net - and I just can't figure out how to convert it from 4 to 3.5

Hi!
I followed the progress of the model in a German forum! Just try to contact Max, perhaps he'll create a G3x version.
About your problem, it's possible to use G3 model in G4, the other way doesn't really work. But it isn't a problem to import the base data which every model maker has to create into G3 / G3.5 / G4 / G4.5 ... it's only a question if someone wants to invest the time to set-up the model which is quit a lot of work.

Go to "Import" (it is in the first menu) - browse to the file on your hard drive - and hit OK. It should tell you that it was imported - and if it did so OK or not.

I had the same problem, it's not the usual importable zip. I had to unzip it in that location, then import the compatable file.
