Default Averted disaster!

Well I was going to show my friend my new trex 500. I've only hovered her twice now since i finished building. When to my surprise when I went to straighten out my tail blades the hub came off in my hand. Yep you guessed it forgot to lock tight. Man that was a close one. I have no clue how the tail didnt fly right off. LESSON learned. That really would have been the world is ending for me moment. Lol

Here's one for ya...
I rebuilt the tail on my HC500 during the winter maintenance/rebuild time. Got a nice day so I went to the field to test it to make sure no vibes showed up after the rebuild. ( Seems to happen to me once in awhile..)
Spooled up as smooth as ever, on a long carpeted piece of asphalt they use in the middle of the field for Cricket, just as it got light on the skids..the bird did the fastest 720 I've ever seen.. bar none.
It was perfect, spun around twice in the blink of an eye, actually in the split second it took me to drop the collective a bit and plant it on the ground again. No tip over, no bobbling, just a split second 720 piro, a hair off the ground then a sudden stop. Freaked me out and quickly went to TH. Couldn't figure out what the heck.. noticed the gyro seemed reversed.... I reversed the tail and it flew fine. Later, I took out the plans, checked my tail build.. all was just as the plans..... I posted like three threads asking if a Tx could just reverse your rudder settings...got all kinds of input. THEN, I looked at a pic of my heli I took right after I finished it...I had originally built it with the tail links reversed, set up the gyro so it worked right.. been flying it that way for a year. After the winter rebuild, I had gone to the plans to make sure I put it back right, never realizing it was wrong when I took it apart for the tail maintenance and rebuilt it back the right way. So the gyro was now reversed....
Lesson learned.. I ALWAYS include a tail direction AND correction check in my pre flights.. ALWAYS.

I always start my powerup in normal mode so I can check the tail, then when rotors are at speed I flip to idle1 right before liftoff.
